Welcome to the Aquarius Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on broader social and societal themes as well as friend and community, systems and networks. We may be weighing larger questions around meaning and purpose. The full moon is exact on August 1 at 2:32 pm ET, 9 degrees Aquarius-Leo. That’s 11:32 am Los Angeles, 7:32 pm London, 8:32 pm Johannesburg, 4:32 am Sydney (August 2), 6:32 am Auckland.
Full moons are decision points, a time when something is in the light of the full moon. Which way will we go? There may be a demand for action or an event that pushes us in a new direction. What we began with the new moon two weeks before is now in full bloom.
Aquarius is one of the last signs of the zodiac, followed by the sign of Pisces, which brings us to the end. When we are in the energies of Aquarius, the personal seems very far away. That’s because we’re at the level of systems, whether social and technological systems or the systems ideas and information that shape and govern our world.
A full moon in Aquarius illuminates these systems and we may be navigating events that touch on larger social themes and social causes, equity and justice, science and technology.
We all have our own relationship with Aquarius. It may evoke feelings about belonging or our opinions on larger societal issues. Or Aquarius may be our relationship sign or health and wellness sign, depending on our own astrology.
Then again, it’s Leo Season, the sign of the Sun and the creative spark that animates our personalities and individuality. How do we be ourselves in the group? How do we take our talents and gifts and share them with the world? How do we power the systems that run our lives?
This full moon brings us to Saturn in Pisces, again a sign that falls at the end of the zodiac. If Aquarius is humanity, then Pisces is universality. As you can imagine, it’s a full moon that zeroes in on much larger themes as well as deep emotions. (Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, the bridge between the physical and non-physical realms, between our physical bodies and our spirituality.)
Saturn also opposes Mercury and Mars in Virgo. There may be a reality check with this full moon, one that prompts us to take action, put things in order, and to be of practical service. Then there’s a square to Jupiter as well as Uranus in Taurus, which pulls at themes around faith and meaning. Although the square to Uranus is wide, it echoes back to some of the bigger changes we’ve made since 2018, especially in 2021 and 2022.
Similarly, the full moon marks the midpoint of the May 5, 2023 lunar eclipse in Scorpio and the lunar eclipse in Taurus to come on October 28, 2023. Note any events that reach back to May. We may also see a portent for events in October.
Finally, speaking of eclipses and the Lunar Nodes that they connect to, I’m doing a two-hour webinar on Saturday, August 5 at 11am ET to get you ready for the Lunar Nodes in Aries-Libra for the next 18-months. As you may recall, the Nodes switched signs back in July, a sign that life will be pulling us in a new direction. The North Node in Aries will be like true north into early 2025. The South Node in Libra is where we have work to do. Recording available for those who cannot join live. Learn more and register in the link below.
