Uranus, the great awakener, returned to Taurus on March 6, 2019, kicking off a seven year story of transformation. If Taurus is the very basics of life — food, money, and stability — then Uranus will be a powerful call for new consciousness around these very themes.
As a sign, Taurus doesn’t take a lot of risks. And why should it? Taurus is roots and safety. It’s the comfort of knowing that everything is where it should be … snacks, stuff, people. It likes predictability, too. So when I think of Uranus’s arrival in Taurus, I couldn’t think of two diametrically opposed forces — Taurus, the sign whose instinct is to preserve the status quo, and Uranus, the planet whose role is to turn it upside down.
If astrology tells us what time it is, then Uranus is not unlike a hand on the clock pointing toward a new hour of transformation. Uranus, for better or worse, breaks us from the past. It is the planet of disruption and new consciousness, of awakenings and revolution. It takes us out of the density and restriction of Saturn, and brings our awareness to something new. For that, Uranus is the mythical Prometheus. It brings the fire of consciousness to darkness. What is seen cannot be unseen.
Uranus in Taurus is new understanding for how we accumulate money, resources, and possessions. It’s an awakening in how we treat the earth and understand our impact on it. It’s a shock to our sense of security and stability. It’s a breakdown as well as a breakthrough in agriculture. It’s earth changes. It’s new awareness of fertility.
Like all the outer planets, Uranus moves slowly. Whatever story initiated in March 2019 (with a preview in May 2018) will unfold over the coming years. And, depending on what sign you are, a particular area of your life — or even yourself — will be revolutionized, transformed, and radically reinvented. It’s hard to see what that may be in years time, but you only have to look back at Uranus’s turn in Aries to see the work of Uranus in action. In the end, Uranus is merely an agent of evolution helping us to grow on a soul level. (Make sure you read my sign-by-sign guide to Uranus in Taurus. Over the coming years, from 2019 until 2025–2026, Uranus will push you to:
- see the earth in a very different way
- reconnect with resource and stability
- shake up your sense of security
- awaken a new system of value
- have a different relationship with food and pleasure
- get back in your body
- have a new taste for life
- let go of negative attachments as well as emotional and spiritual hoarding
- get out of a rut
On a collective level, I think Uranus in Taurus will be a reckoning on how humanity treats the planet. Sustainability will be a big word in the coming years as Taurus speaks to the resources we need to live on this planet. Our ongoing environmental disasters cannot ignored. Our earth, which is a living being, cannot be ignored. It’s possible that we’ll see earth changes in the coming years, all designed to shake our consciousness and get us to make new choices — choices that either create life or take it away.
Uranus was last in Taurus from 1934-1935 to 1942. And while it’s overly simplistic to say that similar events or patterns will reemerge, it’s important to note the events that defined that era. The years 1934 and 1935 marked some of the worst events in the Dust Bowl, which was a time of severe wind storms in the American Midwest that stripped topsoil from drought stricken land, creating blackout like conditions.
The Dust Bowl was an environmental disaster that devastated communities and displaced tens of thousands. The wind blew soil from the High Plains all the way to Chicago and New York. Further, the last cycle of Uranus in Taurus coincided with the rise of Fascism in Europe and the start of World War II. That said, it’s important to take consciousness of how environmental and monetary instability has created geopolitical stress in the past while Uranus is in Taurus.
In short, over the next eight years, our relationship with planet earth — and everything connected to it — has to shift.
