Pisces New Moon

Pisces New Moon: From One Stage to Another

Welcome to the Pisces New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we have reached the end of a long journey. Pisces is the twelfth and final sign. It represents endings and completion as well as an opening to the world beyond this world through spirituality. The new moon will be exact on March 18, 2026 at 9:23 pm ET, 28 degrees Pisces. That’s 6:23 pm Los Angeles, 1:35 am London on March 19, 3:35 am Johannesburg, 7:05 am New Delhi, 12:35 pm Sydney, and 2:35 pm Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings. They turn the page and a new story unfolds, one that may have links to other stories in other times. They act as a focal point for our experiences over a four-week period and, depending on our astrology, can mark personal events.

Today’s Pisces New Moon is not a solar eclipse, but it comes after a series of eclipses in the signs of Pisces and Virgo, including the March 3 Virgo lunar eclipse. It’s part of a story that has been with us since 2023-2024.

To that point, Pisces is familiar territory for us. After all, we spent the past few years with Saturn in Pisces, learning the lessons of a sign that takes us beyond the physical world. There is nothing concrete about Pisces; it asks us great questions — questions that we may struggle to have answers to. Why are we here? What is the meaning and purpose of our lives? What do we believe in and stand for? Do we have compassion for others? Can we forgive?

Ruled by the planet Jupiter, Pisces initiates an inner search through quiet reflection and meditation. And to have a Pisces New Moon is to go on an inner quest over the following four weeks, to seek answers through reflection and meditation.

When we look to the chart of the Pisces New Moon, we find Jupiter over in Cancer, which is to say that Cancer receives the energy of the Pisces New Moon. The next four weeks will also highlight themes around home and family, the past and memories, a need for connection and care. This double water signature — both Pisces and Cancer are water signs — will also activate emotional sensitivities over the next four weeks.

If Pisces is completion and the opportunity to go beyond something that we have been attached to or that has given us suffering, then we may have to work in the coming weeks to let go of the past, to resolve a matter from childhood, or emotions around the home and family. (Technically speaking, Jupiter and the Moon make a “mutual reception.”)

Jupiter also makes a square to Chiron in Aries, activating a pain point and a psychic knot that we will need to unravel. Some of our emotional sensitivities over the coming weeks may touch on a nerve so that we may heal and release.

What’s curious about this new moon is that it comes right at the end of the sign. It stands almost at the edge of the zodiac. Just on the other side, in Aries, is Neptune and Saturn. We may be navigating endings in the next four weeks that symbolically prepare us for the new beginnings of Aries and Saturn-Neptune in Aries. (Note that the Aries New Moon will be on April 17 and the Mars-Saturn conjunction in Aries on April 19.)

Allow what needs to pass to pass. That is one of the roles of element water, especially the water of Pisces, to carry us to the next stage and help us to let go.

Join me this Saturday, March 21, for an online workshop called Sacred Fire, from 1-4pm ET. (Recorded for replay.) Based on my “12 Rooms” approach to astrology. In this intimate group setting, we will learn to work with the energies of Aries, the equinox, and element fire, using them to reignite our flame, to set a new course for the astrological year. Learn more and register.
