Mercury turns retrograde tomorrow. Communication, information, and choices will need a second look. Despite its popular reputation, it doesn’t mean our lives have to grind to a halt. Instead, we have to first feel instead of analyze, reflect instead of act.
Yes, it’s almost that time again. And it’s time again for me to remind you that all planets turn retrograde, expect for the Sun and Moon. Mercury turns retrograde the most frequently, around every three months for three to four weeks at a time. Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto spend five months out of the year retrograde.
If we stopped our lives for every retrograde, we would never move.
What retrogrades are, fundamentally, are a change in energy. Instead of active, the energy is receptive. Creation is built on active and receptive energies, yin and yang. We pull in instead of push out.
Mercury is the planet of communication. Of course things do get screwy during Mercury Retrograde, including miscommunications, delays, and general shenanigans. However, we need to realize that it’s not business as usual during Mercury Retrograde. We have to be deliberate about our choices, present with how we communicate, think, and listen.
There’s a karmic story that we come to during every Mercury Retrograde. Which is to say that we see the results of our choices. We become more aware of what we’re thinking and saying or the direction we’re going in. Maybe this period is the perfect time for us to make necessary changes.
My general advice is that if money is on the line and you can afford to wait and you feel more comfortable doing so, then wait to sign papers, make an investment, or make a commitment.
Of course, long happy marriages still happen under Mercury Retrograde. People get job promotions or sign contracts. Life continues. Just at a different pace and with different awareness. Something missing turns up. An old lover resurfaces. We finally receive the information we’ve been looking for.
Mercury turns retrograde September 9 at 11:38 pm ET, 8 degrees Libra, and turns direct on October 2 at 5:07 am ET, 24 degrees Virgo.
