Welcome to Libra Season. The Sun crosses into the seventh sign of the zodiac at 8:04 pm ET, marking the autumnal equinox for those here in the northern hemisphere, and vernal equinox for those in the southern. Like its symbolic scales, it’s a balance of day and night.

True, we still have a few more hours of Virgo Season, and we may feel the day, depending on where we are located, as a push to wrap up projects and other responsibilities. (The equinox for Europe, Africa, and Asia will be on September 23.) Nevertheless, Libra is not only a new astrological season, but it’s a sign that aligns with the four seasons as well as the four directions.

For this, Libra is a cardinal sign along with Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn. These four signs hold up the sky and symbolically hold up our lives. This underscores the importance of Libra as a sign. Without connection and relationship, cooperation and partnership, our lives are missing vital support.

This Libra Season we find Venus, its ruling planet, over in Scorpio, bringing emotional depth to the season. While Libra has a reputation for keeping things at a surface level, Scorpio can be provocative and demanding. Relationships — and not just romantic relationships — will need work this season. The discomfort of Scorpio is the emotional alchemy that we need in order to grow and evolve.

Other themes for this Libra Season will be trust, vulnerability, power, control, secrets, and the psyche. We may need to look at power dynamics, especially around any relationships that are transactional in nature; Venus will turn retrograde on October 3 at 8 Scorpio. An old relationship may return so that we can seek resolution.
