Mercury in Libra comes up to an opposition to Jupiter in Aries. If Mercury gives us language, then Jupiter helps us to form knowledge and to assign meaning to language. It may be a day when we have to demonstrate what we know. Or make a leap of faith.
There’s a prevailing idea in astrology that oppositions are “bad”. Of course, not all oppositions are created equally; you have to take into account the planets involved. But an opposition highlights two zodiac signs that oppose one another. And while an opposition may reveal conflict, it can also show us complementary energies, which is to say two energies that need each other.
Libra and Aries are the relational signs. Aries is the individual, sometimes starkly so. Aries can be self reliant, self motivated, but also quick to go after its own interests, for better or for worse. Libra, on the other hand, is the sign of relationship. It reminds us that for all the value of Aries’s individualism, we can’t do life alone. We the energy of Libra to balance things out, to find compromise, and accommodation. At the same time, we can’t have more of one than the other. Both have to be in perfect harmony.
Mercury and Jupiter are the planets of discovery. They help us to discover ourselves and the world around us. They help us learn and build understanding, to shift and move perspective. Discovery can’t happen alone. We need to share what we’ve learned. We need relationships built on understanding.
Our encounters and conversations today may reveal where we see eye to eye with others … or where there is a need to find common ground.
Keep in mind that Mercury turns retrograde next week, September 9, at 8 degrees Libra, and make two more oppositions to Jupiter on September 18 and October 12. The story continues.
