Venus in Scorpio makes a provocative square to Pluto. It’s a friction point for a relationship, a challenge to what we value, a demand for greater intimacy. With Venus Retrograde three weeks away, our experiences today may be revisited in the coming months.
Each planet, except for the Sun and Moon, turns retrograde. So, it’s not a great rarity that some planet is retrograde at any given moment. On a deeper level, a retrograde planet is an opportunity to work more deeply on the planet’s energies and archetypes. It’s a karmic challenge, so to speak, but one where we can learn to transcend a planet’s lower expression.
For example, Mercury Retrograde, a planet that turns retrograde most frequently — every three months — is an opportunity to rethink, review, and to weigh our options from a different vantage point. In a world where we are being bombarded with information and choices, we need Mercury Retrograde to slow down and make sure we didn’t miss anything.
Then there’s Venus. Every 18 months the planet of love, relationships, money, and value turns retrograde, an opportunity to bring an old relationship to a close or to reflect more deeply on what is truly of value and worth in our lives — including our own self-worth and value. (The last time Venus was retrograde was March 1 to April 12, 2025. Venus Retrograde is always 40 days.)
With Venus beginning its retrograde at 8 Scorpio on October 3, this will be a retrograde that will touch on very powerful emotional and psychological themes, particularly around power in relationships. Venus may expose transactional relationships, whether we are the one using a relationship transactionally or vice versa. This includes sexuality as well.
Today’s Venus-Pluto square is part of an opening story that will take us into the end of the year. Take note of what is coming up for you.
Again, Venus will begin its retrograde at 8 Scorpio on October 3 and end its retrograde at 22 Libra on November 13, crossing back into Libra on October 25. There will be two more Venus-Pluto squares in this series on October 20 and December 9.
