Uranus turns retrograde at 5 Gemini, a marker in a story that will unfold over the course of seven years. If Uranus is an evolutionary planet, then its role is to awaken and transform us. A key area of our lives is in the early stages of a reinvention, flashes of insights.
In astrology there are different classes of planets. There are the luminaries — the Sun and Moon, planets that give and receive light. There are the personal planets — Mercury, Venus, Mars, planets that shape our personality and the more mundane functions of our lives. Then there are the societal planets — Jupiter and Saturn, planets that govern over large arcs of time and reflect the larger structures of the world around us and our place in it.
Up until two centuries ago, all we knew were the planets that we could see in the night sky. Astrology followed suit, beginning with the Sun and ending with Saturn. When Uranus was discovered in 1781 via telescope by astronomers, it opened a new world, going beyond the known boundaries of Saturn. A new universe awaited.
Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are modern planets as well as evolutionary planets; they get us to grow and evolve, sometimes by any means possible.
So, with Uranus now retrograde and infusing its energy into the Virgo New New Moon and the next four weeks, the coming days may be a time of awakening, breakthrough, and new consciousness … but also shakeups, especially something that upends the previous order.
