The Astrology of October 2, 2026

Mars, newly in Leo, makes a powerhouse opposition to Pluto in Aquarius, a force that has the power to move mountains, but also an aspect that demands that we transform our relationship with power and control. We’re also navigating a ripple of eclipse energy.

If you recall, we had a solar eclipse in Leo just two months ago, on August 12. A solar eclipse sets up a six-chapter — in this case, from August 2026 to February 2027 — that will focus on the sign and archetypes that the solar eclipse occurred in. Since Leo is the sign of the Sun, the coming months will focus on themes of identity and belonging, self expression and visibility, vitality and passion, creativity and the arts.

With Mars now in the same sign as the solar eclipse, whatever seeds of new beginnings that were planted in August, will now come into full view, particularly in the days around November 3-4 when Mars reaches the same degree as the solar eclipse, 20 Leo.

That said, before that can happen, Mars makes its biennial opposition to Pluto, a showdown that may seem separate from August’s solar eclipse, but is part of the same story.

If we are feeling intense energies or a confrontation that builds into this weekend, whether between someone else in our lives or internally, the opposition will be a force to try to resolve it. Events from August may demand that we make a transformation this week. (Read Mars in Leo: Sign by Sign)

Also this weekend, Venus will turn retrograde at 8 Scorpio on October 3, the start of a 40-day rewind on what we value and invest in as well as how we relate and socialize with others. Venus Retrograde is the rarest of the retrogrades, happening every 18-months. And like all retrogrades, it is a yin phase, a time when we pull inward to reflect and rework the past.

It’s not uncommon during Venus Retrograde for an old relationship to resurface, perhaps to heal a wound or to close a door for good. Conventional wisdom also states that Venus Retrograde is not the best time to make a large purchase, such as property and real estate or luxury items.

Venus will be retrograde until November 13, moving from 8 Scorpio, reentering Libra on October 25 and turning direct at 22 Libra.
