Neptune turns retrograde in Aries, an activation of a subtle force that will work its way through our emotions, dreams, and sensitivities over the coming days. Neptune helps us to pull back the veil between this world and the next. But it can also unmoor.
There are different types of planets in astrology. The Sun, of which we are most familiar, is the planet of the self and personality. It not only provides light to the sky, but light to our astrology chart. The Sun is a luminary as well as a personal planet. Mercury, Venus, and Mars are also personal planets, although they do not give off light.
Neptune, however, is a transpersonal planet. Meaning, it’s part of a class of planets — Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto — that take us beyond our day-to-day personal lives and into something more. Call it the realm of the soul and the spirit. For this, Neptune is an evolutionary force, shifting and reshaping us so that we grow and evolve.
I was thinking of the forces a lot this weekend as a powerful storm unleashed itself through the community that I am living in, felling trees and ripping siding off. (At one point I wondered if it was a tornado, but likely a microburst.)
Neptune isn’t so dramatic, but it is a force, if not a subtle force. We just can’t see it.
Over the coming years, while Neptune slowly makes its way through Aries, the part of our lives that Aries governs over, depending on our Sun and rising sign, will be reshaped by this subtle force. What changes will be unique to our lives and our evolution.
Perhaps we need to learn to be more compassionate and empathetic. Or work to release ourselves from something. Or transform our relationship with a key area of our lives. (Read Neptune in Aries: Sign by Sign.)
With Neptune starting its retrograde today at 4 Aries, we are more in touch with this subtle force. We may feel more emotional or feel as though something is bubbling up from deep within. But like an ocean wave or a strong burst of wind, we need to make sure we are keeping our grounding this week lest we get swept away in Neptune’s illusions.
