We’ve got a lot of astrology going on this week. Fresh off the Cancer New Moon, the Lunar Nodes have changed signs, signaling a new collective “north”. For the next 18-months, we’re reaching towards Aries.
What are the Lunar Nodes?
They are two mathematical points in the sky that mark where the Moon intersects the ecliptic as it rotates around the earth. Although a little technical, what’s important to understand is that those two points form an axis and that axis is used to predict eclipses.
Astrology is first astronomy. It’s the mechanics of planets moving around the Sun and our perspective of this movement from earth. It’s the passage of seasons … the new and full moons … the eclipses that punctuate time every six months … and planets seemingly appearing to turn backwards in the sky, then direct.
What astrology does is assign symbolic meaning to these movements and events. And to this, the Lunar Nodes become an axis of fate, two points that act like portals where time bends and events can mark our lives.
Over the last 18-months, since January 2022, the Lunar Nodes have been in Taurus-Scorpio. The North Node in Taurus has acted like a symbolic and collective true north. It’s been a push to find solid ground, to find renewal as well as the pleasure of earthly life. The South Node in Scorpio, however, has pulled us into its dark, deep waters to face our fears, to shed the past, and to look at our karma with the archetype of Scorpio.
Now that changes. The North Node is now in Aries and the South Node is in Libra. Our collective true north is Aries, which is to say that, over the next 18-months, we’re reaching for our individuality, learning to stand up for ourselves, standing on our own two feet, finding our courage and bravery.
With the South Node in Libra, we have work to do with Libra. Our relationships need attention. We need to look where we sacrifice our desires for others or overly compromise. We have to examine our karma around justice and equity. We have to balance the scales.
Aries-Libra is the axis of relationship, a reminder that we can’t be too individualistic (Aries) that we lose our ability to compromise and see things from the perspective of others (Libra). We can be too accommodating (Libra) that our own wants and needs get pushed to the side (Aries).
It also means that the eclipses will happen in the signs of Aries-Libra. We’ve already had one eclipse in Aries, a solar eclipse on April 20. Next is a solar eclipse in Libra on October 14, 2023. If you are an Aries or a Libra, this will be a time of dynamic new beginnings and changes in partnership.
