Mars makes its last dynamic opposition to Pluto, a volcanic-like aspect that has wound its way back and forth across the sky since November 2024 and again in January 2025. We’ve had deep internal work to do around power and control, desire and want.
I’ve been saying that 2025 has three main chapters, the first of which spans from the end of last year and into the end of May. This period is driven by Mars, from the retrograde of December 6 to February 23 to the three Mars-Pluto oppositions. And during this time there has been work to do on our Mars. When I say “a work to do”, note that in reality a planet isn’t doing anything to us. It’s just a reflection of an energy, a key code that helps us to understand and access an archetype. Mars is the archetype of power and desire, courage and bravery, the decision to take action and move forward. It can also, in some cases, represent anger, aggression, seizing of power, and violence.
We all have a relationship with the energy of Mars, even if that relationship is mostly unconscious. So, this period of about 6-8 months has been a time to connect consciously to our power and desire, to reexamine how we use our anger, and to make a change.
Pluto is non-negotiable transformation. Combined with Mars, it’s a very powerful aspect that has been weaving its way through the collective experience and consciousness since last October-November. It can also amplify the shadows that we all carry within us. Sometimes we need a stark reminder of what lies within our psyche so that we can choose to act differently.
With tomorrow’s final exact opposition between Mars and Pluto at 3 degrees Leo-Aquarius, we can use the energy conscientiously to step into a new space within ourselves, to be a leader and to engage in positive reformations in our personal lives.
