Welcome to the Taurus New Moon, the time in the zodiac calendar when the page turns to our material lives. Taurus is the first earth sign. It’s the primal needs that we all have — stability and security, resources and assets. It’s also the earthly pleasures of life. The new moon is exact on April 27, 2025 at 3:31 pm EDT, 7 degrees of Taurus. That’s 12:31 pm Los Angeles, 8:31 pm London, 9:31 pm Johannesburg, 1:01 am New Delhi on April 28, 5:31 am Sydney, and 7:31 pm Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings. They turn the page; they create a new stage and setting for the next four weeks, one that will be played out through the energies and archetypes of the sign. This new moon follows the March 29 Aries New Moon solar eclipse. And while this new moon is not an eclipse, it continues a story that was initiated at that time, a story that will unfold into September 2025.

On a broader level, a Taurus New Moon is an invitation to turn our attention to money and income, property and assets. What do we own? What do we need? Of course, we all have different scales of value when it comes to money, but ultimately we’re all human beings. We need a roof over our head, some form of currency, and food to survive. It’s a lunar month to get back to the basics.

Taurus is ruled by Venus, a planet that pulls double duty as the ruler of the material world as well as love and relationships. Taurus and Venus helps us to find pleasure — pleasure in food, our bodies, the green grass and flowers, the pleasure of nice things.

At the time of the new moon we find Venus at the end of Pisces, at 28 degrees. For those who know, 29 degrees — just one degree away from Venus — is the final degree of the zodiac. While we are focused on our earthly lives with the new moon, Venus in Pisces has our attention towards a world beyond this world.

Pisces is the twelfth sign, last sign of the zodiac, in contrast with Taurus, which is the second sign. Pisces is the inner search for meaning and purpose. It opens us up to spirituality and helps us to let go of our attachments, which includes our attachments to matter.

This is not to say that this is a new moon to sell our earthly belongings and wander as a monk. Instead, it’s a new moon to examine both our material lives and our spiritual needs. While we have to make sure we have everything we need physically, ultimately we can’t take it all with us. The material stays here. The spirit embarks on a great journey beyond.

Over the coming days and weeks we may feel like cleaning things out, letting go of attachments, reconsidering our values, investing in what truly fulfills us. In a spirit of Piscean generosity, we may feel inspired to give and donate, especially to the less fortunate in our community.

With Venus conjunct Saturn in Pisces, this is also a lunar month to make decisions and commitments around our material lives, to take things seriously, to make a serious investment in our spiritual lives, to finally let something go that we have been holding onto. Venus also joins up with the North Node of the Moon. Doors open and close this lunar month.

The new moon at 7 Taurus also tightly stuck between a powerful opposition between Mars at 4 Leo and Pluto at 3 Aquarius in what’s called a t-square. This is an aspect of change, reformation, and sweeping away the past. While the exact Mars-Pluto opposition was April 26, it will be an energy that reverberates throughout May. We may need to clean things out, purging the old so that something new can take its place. All part of this new era we are in with Pluto in Aquarius.

In short, this is a new moon that brings us to a passage. The new moon is not an eclipse, but it will activate the energies of the Aries New Moon solar eclipse, especially after April 30 when Venus arrives in Aries. What do we value? What do we need? What needs to purge? The new moon may bring us to a very different space.
