Welcome to the Scorpio New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when turn towards life, death, and the alchemy of transformation. Scorpio is a water sign, a sign that speaks to emotional intimacy as well as the darker parts our psyche. The full moon is exact on November 15, 2020 at 12:08 am EST, 23 degrees Scorpio. That’s 9:08 pm Los Angeles on November 14, 5:08 am London on November 15, 4:08 pm Sydney, and 6:08 pm Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings, a time of reset and renewal that bring us into a four week period lived through the lens of a zodiac sign. When the new moon is in Scorpio we’re working with the archetype of Scorpio – rebirth, power, trust, control, sex, and the shadow. Scorpio teaches us brutal truths, that not all things last forever as evidenced here in the northern hemisphere. The nights are longer and colder. The natural world is in a state of decay as we grow closer to winter.

We need a Scorpio. True, it’s an uncomfortable sign. It makes us face ourselves, our fears, our vulnerabilities. It connects to life’s darker experiences and traumas. But it’s through pressure as well as Scorpio’s emotional and spiritual fire that we have the alchemy to change. It break us open, hollows us out, and allows new life to flow.

What do you fear? Is it the irrational fear of being abandoned? That you’re not good enough or wanted? That you’re not equal to the task? Whatever lurks in our dark heart must be faced when we’re in the energies of Scorpio. Otherwise it pulls at our unconsciousness, manipulates our actions, and pollutes our ability to be truly open and real with one another.

So, over the coming weeks we’re exploring the deepest parts of ourselves and getting uncomfortable. 2020 has certainly pushed us internally and emotionally. How can we push ourselves even more? Mars, recently direct in Aries, activates a configuration of planets in Capricorn that can only be described as “2020 energy”. These planets — Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn — reveal a deep structural reboot that we’ve all be experiencing. With the new moon in sextile to these planets, we have an opportunity over the weeks in spite of Scorpio’s emotional intensity and discomfort.

We also can’t forget that this new moon ushers in a lunar month punctuated by a lunar eclipse at 8 degrees Gemini on November 30. As a result it may feel like this new moon ushers in a new chapter, one that may bring the sort of dramatic story arc that only an eclipse can. Are we safe? Can we trust the process? Do we know which direction is the right direction? Time to get uncomfortable. Necessarily so.
