Welcome to the Sagittarius Full Moon. It’s also a lunar eclipse. This is the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is not only on matters of faith and truth as well as the search for meaning, but when the arc of fate sends us in a new direction. The coming days demand action. The full moon is exact on May 26, 2021 at 7:14 am EDT, 5 degrees Sagittarius/Gemini. That’s 4:14 am Los Angeles, 12:14 am London, 1:14 am Johannesburg, 9:14 pm Sydney, and 11:14 pm Auckland.

Lunar eclipses can feel like a crisis point. Emotional energy can run high. It feels as though life has turned up the dial. There’s something that needs our attention. Something may irrevocably change.

If you’re feeling the intensity, it’s possible that you have planets in Gemini and Sagittarius, along the path of the eclipse, or in the signs of Virgo and Pisces, which cross the eclipse. Even if you don’t, you may feel yourself doing some soul searching right now. What does it all mean? And after the last year that we had, maybe it’s a struggle.

There’s a couple of important to points to highlight. First is that today’s lunar eclipse is what’s called a South Node eclipse because it falls along the South Node of the Moon, which is a point of release. We’re urged to sort through sometimes messy feelings of the past and let go.

Second, this is a sharp look at all things Sagittarius. What do we believe in? What’s our truth? What causes do we rally behind and fight for? What’s our relationship with justice? Our relationship with faith? Are we ready for the next adventure? Do we have all the answers?

The interplay between Gemini and Sagittarius is the need to take ideas and information and put it into something, whether it’s a book, a teaching, or a philosophy. But this lunar eclipse, in a way, asks us to do the opposite. And so, third, we’re deconstructing something with this energy. Since it’s Sagittarius, a sign of the mind as well as abstract ideals, we have to take a look at where we’re wrong, uninformed, or stuck in our version of the truth. After all, the North Node is in Gemini. We need to get a new perspective on old beliefs.

Fourth, Jupiter, the ruler of the eclipse, is in Pisces — newly in Pisces, actually, as of May 13. If Sagittarius is the external search for truth and meaning, then Pisces brings things inward. Add in Mercury square Neptune and there’s a strong theme around surrender, release, and the need to find the spiritual side of things. As the old quote goes, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

Lastly, we need to understand that eclipses, despite their reputation for swift and sudden change, are not unlike the curtain coming down on one act of life and then coming up again. Today’s eclipse is part of a story or stage that opened in June 2020 and began another act in December 2020. Here we are again; the curtain comes up.
