Happy Pisces Full Moon! This is the time of the lunar calendar when the light shines on all things Pisces — compassion, empathy, understanding, care, spirituality, and forgiveness. As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces reminds us that we’re all connected by an invisible ocean. The full moon is exact on September 14, 2019 at 12:33 am EDT, 21 degrees Pisces/Virgo. That’s 9:33 pm Los Angeles on September 13, 5:33 am London on September 14, and 2:33 pm in Sydney.
Pisces is the last Water sign. It’s not just your feelings (Cancer), or the feelings you share intimately with others (Scorpio), but the feelings of everyone on this planet and beyond. Pisces is also the last sign of the zodiac, a sign that transitions us out of the physical world and prepares us for the next one and, ultimately, rebirth.
Pisces is dreams, meditation, and altered states of reality. It’s the quiet space that we all have to go to from time to time to replenish ourselves. It’s sanctuary, retreat, and recuperation. It’s mysticism and the visions — or delusions — of another world beyond this one.
We need Pisces, which is to say that we need our neat, ordered reality turned upside down. We need our hearts opened. We need empathy as well as forgiveness. We need to search our souls. Pisces is a sign that reminds us that all the minutiae — and even pettiness — of daily living will crush us unless we nourish our spirits with something more.
Full moons spur us into action and this one is shining a light, perhaps uncomfortably so, on our spiritual lives and our spiritual needs. Have we been neglecting our energetic bodies? Do we need more time for retreat and contemplation? Is there someone that we need to forgive or have more compassion for?
With the full moon right on an opposition between Neptune in Pisces and Mars in Virgo, we’re feeling an energy of surrender. Mars likes to call the shots and take command, but in the face of Neptune, it’s not going to get what it wants. Instead, how can take action (Mars) for the highest good (Neptune)?
At the heart of this full moon is a question — perhaps even a crisis — of faith. Jupiter, the ruler of the full moon squares Neptune. If Jupiter in Sagittarius is the quintessence of knowing something to be true, then its square to Neptune erodes at our faith. It questions, it confuses. Maybe what we thought was truth isn’t after all? (Note that the last Jupiter/Neptune square in this series is September 21.)
It’s also a full moon where it’s important that we don’t lose hope or faith. We don’t want to slip into loss or despair, which is part of the shadow side of Pisces. Make sure you’re finding a healthy balance between your emotional body and your physical self. Go for a walk. Get fresh air.
In the chart of the full moon, there’s a lot of Water and Earth, but no Air and only one planet in Fire. Water and Earth are yin in nature — they receive, reflect, gestate, support. So this means that we need to take the extra steps to communicate and relate (Air) and initiate (Fire) right now, both yang energies. In fact, both Mercury and Venus (communicating and relating) are at 29 Virgo, a degree that wants us to take extra care in how we use those planets.
PS — This Tuesday, on September 17, I’m teaching a 90-minute webinar, Facing Saturn: Learn to Master Your Life. Saturn is one of my favorite planets because it gives us very clear instructions on how to live and master our lives, showing us the lessons we’ll keep returning to. As always, you can still register to receive the video replay if you cannot participate live. Details and registration here.
