Neptune arrives in Aries, a sign it has not been in since 1875. If Neptune represents an evolutionary force, one that blurs the boundaries between the material and spiritual worlds, its time in Aries will be lived through the lens of action and new beginnings.

In a parade of notable planetary movements that span 2024-2026, Neptune’s arrival in Aries seems quiet, yet no less powerful. Neptune is atmospheric in nature, it pulls at the edges, it erodes and sensitizes. It is the astrological equivalent of a change in the background music.

To understand Neptune’s time in Aries and what it may mean for the next 14 years — the time that Neptune spends in a zodiac sign — we need to first understand Neptune on a real world as well as spiritual level.

There are, of course, the astronomical facts to first consider. Neptune takes 165 years to make one full orbit around the Sun, which is to say that Neptune’s position in the sky in 2025 is the same as it was in 1861. Neptune is also not visible to the naked eye and was only discovered in 1846 through scientific means. (Astronomers noticed a wobble in the orbit of Uranus that could only be explained by the presence of a large planetary body.) And it wasn’t until 1989 that the Voyager 2 space probe sent back the first photographs of Neptune with its faintly streaked blue atmosphere of hydrogen and helium.

Astrologically speaking, Neptune is part of a class of planets that were not known to the ancients and therefore not known to astrology. It has been given Pisces as its rulership, but in reality the modern planets have no rulership. They exist outside the bounds of Saturn. Their role is to get us to shift and evolve our consciousness.

I remember when Neptune first arrived in Pisces in 2011-2012, there was a lot of spiritual hope and even hype about a new golden age we were arriving in. Would Neptune in Pisces pave the way? Here we are, 13 years later, and this couldn’t be further from the truth. If anything, Neptune in Pisces has amplified distortions and illusions. But in spite of this, it seems as though more and more people are looking for spiritual connection along with interests in astrology and crystals.

If Neptune is an evolutionary planet, how have our lives shifted and evolved since 2012? It’s worth contemplating. Did we evolve our relationships with all things Pisces? Compassion … peace … forgiveness … spirituality … release … meaning and purpose … ? Did we also stare into the Neptunian abyss? (Possibly both!)

As for Neptune in Aries, the evolutionary planet has crossed from the end of the zodiac — Pisces — to the beginning of the zodiac — Aries. These are two signs that speak to endings and beginnings. We’ve come to the end of a century-long cycle and begin another.

For something to evolve, it means that we need to do a great work, often an internal work, one where we face our illusions and our unconsciousness. If Neptune dissolves the boundaries between our physical and non-physical world, it can both distort existing unconsciousness and give us the power to transcend ourselves.

In the highest of Neptune’s expression, is unity and universality, only achieved when we sublimate our illusions. But, first, we have to go into Neptune’s abyss, not unlike Pluto’s deep work of the soul and its underworld that we need to cross.

Neptune also makes us more sensitive. It’s an antenna for psychic activity, which is why it is often the planet associated with mediums, mystics, and channels. It opens up our ability to perceive beyond the veil. It also speaks to higher callings and emotional connection.

What can we expect from its time in Aries, which will be from 2025 and 2025 to 2038 and 2039? Here are some possible themes, on both ends of the spectrum:

  • Compassionate leadership
  • Fanaticism
  • Spiritual new dawns
  • The illusion of self sufficiency
  • Universal actions for the collective
  • Feeling justified in fighting others
  • The fire of revelation
  • Grand inspiration

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It is ruled by the planet Mars and speaks to our need to stand on our own two feet, to reconnect with our desires, to go after what we find. Neptune will be a powerful lens for this energy — again, on both ends of the spectrum.

But if we keep our grounding (Mars) and don’t lose ourselves in Neptune’s powerful energies, we can be catalysts (Aries) for new beginnings, ones that help to open new consciousness and find empathy and understanding in this new era. The “I” now has to become universal.
