Happy Leo New Moon! This is the time in the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to joy, passion, and the power of being ourselves. Leo, ruled by the Sun, is a sign that teaches us all to shine. Over the coming weeks we’re focusing on our individuality and rediscovering what gets us excited about living. The Leo New Moon is exact on July 31, 2019 at 11:12 pm EDT, 8 degrees Leo. That’s 7:12 pm Los Angeles, 4:12 am London, and 1:12 pm in Sydney on August 1. After a heavy Cancer ruled lunar month with two eclipses, we could use the fire and confidence of Leo.

After the heaviness of last month’s Cancer Season and eclipses, this Leo New Moon is a welcome change. True, Cancer is a sign that teaches us about finding emotional connection, but its needs can feel overwhelming, especially when its needs are not being met. But here are in a brand new lunar month, one that helps us to understand that live is about having fun as much as it is about the emotional ups and downs of change.

In its positive facet, Leo is the sign of play and child-like joy. And, over the coming four weeks we’re being urged to remember what it was like to just enjoy ourselves. As adults we become so conditioned to repress our inner child that sometimes we need a reminder that life is too short to not be in the pure passion and pleasure of living. (Leo is also pride and egotism and even narcissism, so be careful of Leo’s shadow side this month.)

What did you like to do as a child? Was it to run and around explore? Was it to make art? Was it to sing? How can you bring that into the present moment? How can you play like you did as a child this Leo lunar month?

Leo also gets us back in touch with the spark of life. It’s a fire sign, after all. Fire likes to move and create and inspire. It’s also the motivation and courage to be alive and to share our talents as well as the truth of who we are to others. It’s a lunar month to focus on all aspects of identity and persona. It’s a lunar month to put ourselves in the spotlight and to make ourselves seen.

What I like in particular about this Leo New Moon is that it makes a conjunction to Venus in Leo. So, over the coming four weeks, we’re also focusing on romance and relationships. Plus, the new moon makes trine to Jupiter in Sagittarius. It’s a month to explore, travel, and enjoy the abundance of life.

But here’s the catch. (There’s always a catch, right?) The new moon makes a square to Uranus in Taurus, which means that part of this opening up to the pleasure, passion, and abundance of life means that we need to get out of our comfort zone. Uranus isn’t interested in maintaining the status quo. It wants to break out of things that hold us back. It wants to illuminate what was previously in the dark. It wants reinvention and revolution.

So, life may be moving along pretty quickly this coming lunar month. We may be throwing caution to the wind and taking risks. Life is too short to pretend to be someone we’re not. Life is too short to not make time for play. Life it too short to not experience passion. Be prepared to reinvent yourself to bring these things into your life.
