Welcome to the Leo Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on passion, creativity, and the spark that lives within. As a fire sign, Leo gives us a strong sense of self and individuality. The full moon is exact on February 16, 2022 at 11:57 am EST, 28 degrees Leo. That’s 8:57 am Los Angeles, 4:57 pm London, 6:57 pm Johannesburg, 3:57 am Sydney on February 17, and 5:57 am Auckland.
Full moons are decision points, a time when the spotlight is on something in our lives that demands our attention as well as our action. And since this full moon exactly squares the lunar eclipse of November 19, 2021, we’re not only at a turning point, but possibly navigating pivotal events that have a seed in the astrology of three months before.
Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac. It picks up on the fire energies of Aries, the first fire sign, and crafts that raw individual energy into an expression of persona and identity. It’s through Leo that we discover exactly who we are, despite the collective identity of Aquarius, Leo’s opposing sign, that we are all unique in our own way.
So, there’s a strong power and desire for us to be ourselves this week. And as much as Leo is about personality, it’s also a reminder to rekindle our passion for life. We need that spark, we need the joy and pleasure. Without it, we feel burnt out and unable to move.
This full moon does a couple of important things. First, as previously mentioned, it’s a link back to the eclipses of November-December 2021. But it also presages the eclipses to come in April-May 2022. February is an important link in a larger story.
Second, the full moon exactly squares the Lunar Nodes in Taurus-Scorpio, a reminder that as of January we’re in a new chapter focused on money, material stability, trust, power, intimacy, and rebirth. Although the spotlight is on Leo with this full moon, we can’t help but feel that South Node in Scorpio and wonder if it’s safe for us to be ourselves as well as that North Node in Taurus that demands we know our worth.
Third, the full moon picks up on the energies of Saturn square Uranus. Yes, that aspects still hanging out in the astrology even though we had our last square back in December. One foot in an old life, one foot in a new one. This may be a full moon that requires us to take a risk, to be bold, spirited, and confident, all in order to get closer to a new life that has been trying to come in.
That said, there’s a pretty simple story in this full moon. Rekindle the fire within. Prioritize joy and creativity. Have the courage and confidence to be yourself and be prepared to make the changes necessary to remedy anything that’s in the way, including ourselves.
