Welcome to January! Welcome to Capricorn Season and a new decade! We step into a new year with five planets in Capricorn, which means that we’re making goals, plans, and working hard. But we have to tear down something old in order to reach them.

There’s a lot that’s been hinted at about the astrology of January 2020, from its potential for change and restructuring, to the birth of a new 40 year cycle (!). That said, we have a powerhouse lineup of planets that, used with the highest intention, can be like a positive wrecking ball to old blocks, old fears, and old patterns in a certain area of our lives. (Want a free guide to working with the wrecking ball that I created for my Starstruck 2020 Global Astrology Summit talk? Sign up for my newsletter to get it.)

The astrology of January says that something has to change. The energies of Saturn and Pluto are demanding nothing less as they form a rare conjunction on January 12. Saturn in Capricorn wants to build while Pluto in Capricorn wants to tear down or completely transform what we’re building. We may have to face the deepest parts of ourselves as a result. Pluto has a habit of revealing the innermost workings of our psyche and our soul. (The last time Saturn and Pluto were conjunct was November 1982.)

In addition, we have a full moon lunar eclipse on January 10 in the sign of Cancer, highlighting the imperative that we need to make sure we’re getting our needs met in the midst of our this change. As you restructure your life, what’s going to fill it? Cancer, as a sign, talks about the heart and soul of living. It’s the things that are truly important when all the nonsense is stripped away — emotional connection and the feeling that safety and security that comes with it.

On the same day as the lunar eclipse, Uranus turns direct in Taurus at 2 degrees, another reminder that we’re in the midst of transformative energies that want us to evolve. Uranus arrived in Taurus back in March 2019, a sign that it will be in for the next six years. As a result, we’re checking in on a certain part of our life this month and seeing how we’re reinventing it. Not sure what part of your life is getting reinvented by Uranus? Read my Uranus in Taurus: Sign by Sign guide.

That said, Mars also changes signs this month, arriving in Sagittarius on January 3. For the rest of the month we’re motivated to travel, explore, and contemplate life’s deeper, more philosophical questions. We may also be more self conscious of how we’ve used our Mars in the past, looking to change how we take action and motive ourselves going forward.

In short, there’s a lot of things moving this month. We’re rounding out eclipse season, a time when the stage our of life resets for the next scene. People are coming in and out of our lives as a result. We’re seeing new opportunities while powerfully saying goodbye to the past.

Aries

March 21–April 19

Aries Glyph

Ready for a new year, Aries? With Mars, your ruling planet, coming out of Scorpio on January 3, you’ll thankfully start to feel the emotional heaviness of Scorpio start to lift. Mars will trade Scorpio for Sagittarius, soul searching for world travel and exploration. Mars in Sagittarius also gives you a kick of confidence, which you could use because the astrology of January is asking a lot of you, especially in the realm of career, future goals, home, and family. Let’s set the stage first. Think back to January 2018. That was the month that Saturn arrived in your career sign of Capricorn, the sign that aligns with the highest reaches of your chart. Over the last two years you’ve been working hard — Saturn’s orders — to make something of yourself in the world. Maybe you’ve made a major job change or got a promotion. Maybe you’ve been searching for the career that’s going to help you find your place in life. Maybe you’ve been hustling to get your life on track. Keep this in mind as you step into 2020. There are five planets in Capricorn right now, which means everything is pointing towards career, ambition, status, and direction. More importantly, it’s a month that’s possibly setting you for a professional breakthrough if you play your cards right. Here’s the thing. Saturn’s making what’s called a conjunction to Pluto on January 12, a rare alignment that’s demanding that you face whatever fears, whatever shadows you have about being successful. If you’ve historically been selling yourself short in the world, feeling like an imposter, how will you finally lay this story to rest? If you’ve struggled to reach a long sought after goal, how will you create a new plan? It’s also a month where you’re under a lot of scrutiny, so make sure you’re doing all this Capricorn energy proud by showing up on time, honoring your commitments, and making new goals for 2020. That said, there’s a lot of intense astrology going on in January and, as a result, you may feel like many things are demanding your immediate attention. For some, January may be a pivotal month, one that marks the next chapter in a story that’s been unfolding since 2018. You may even feel like old parts of your life are being torn down so that something new can emerge. The middle of January may put the squeeze on you, so make sure you’re taking care of yourself and communicating what you need. A full moon lunar eclipse on January 10 puts home and family in the spotlight. You may have a decision to make about where you’re going to live or you’re looking to make a major change in the home in the first half of 2020. You may even need to deal with or purge something from the past — memories, emotions, childhood, parents — in order to move on with your life. By the end of January and Aquarius Season, you’re still focused on your career and responsibilities, but it’s all about creating a serious vision of what your hopes are for 2020. Thankfully you’ll still have three planets in Capricorn helping you build or rebuild a structure for the coming year. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Taurus

April 20–May 20

Taurus Glyph

Taurus, if 2019 was the start of your personal reinvention, then it continues in earnest in 2020. There’s been a curious dynamic brewing as you step into the new year. On one hand, you’ve had Uranus in Taurus since March 2019, a planet that will ensure that you awaken, shake up, and transform who you are over the coming six years. (Yes, six years. Read more about Uranus in Taurus here.) But for that to happen, it’s as if you need to see yourself and the world through new eyes. Which brings me to January’s astrology. See, Taurus, you’re a sign that, on paper, wants to preserve the status quo, to keep things the same. For most of the time, it’s your superpower, but it can also flip the other way, making you your own worst enemy. 2020 has to be the year that you get out of your way. Despite your tendency to preserve things at all cost, January is truly trying to get you to open up. This means breaking down old patterns and negative thinking. This means looking at where your tunnel vision means that you’re not seeing the whole picture. This also means reexamining what you believe in and if it still holds truth. The full moon on January 10 is a call for new ideas, new information, and new awareness. Will you heed the call, which may feel like an alarm steadily growing louder in the background? On the same day as the full moon, Uranus turns direct in Taurus, giving you a potential for an awakening or breakthrough or just a bit of a jolt. (Those born in late April are really feeling this.) As I mentioned before, Uranus is really getting you to reinvent yourself, which is a perfect intention for the new year. Keep in mind that the Sun will make some bumpy contacts to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn on January 12-13. If you’re feeling strong emotions and even stronger resistance to change, how will you release it so that it’s no longer in the way? You may even see a transformation in direction this month, one that also speaks to career and ambition. Speaking of career, by the time the Sun arrives in Aquarius on January 20 followed by an Aquarius New Moon on January 24, you’re stepping into a time later this month that’s all about new career initiatives and maybe a change in job, too. In all, January is a dynamic, combative, transformative, and provocative month, but one that can be used to break through deeply ingrained patterns. For many people it’s going to be a powerful turning point. Use it wisely, Taurus. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Key Themes: Reinvention, breakthrough, breakdown, old patterns, old ruts, worldview, beliefs, negative beliefs, awakening, faith, exploration, search, quest, education, travel, other viewpoints, other cultures, new ideas, new information, new perspectives, the shadow self, the psyche, facing fears, deep emotions, career, direction, professional life, status, reputation, ambition, goals.

Gemini

May 21–June 20

Gemini Glyph

2019 was quite the year, wasn’t it? It’s likely that you’ve had a lot of heavy emotional lifting to do going back 2018, too. The good news is that you’re almost out of this phase, a once-in-a-thirty-year chapter in your life where you have to face yourself at the deepest levels and profoundly transform. I mention this because January, in many ways, represents a time where you’re under a lot of emotional pressure. Whatever old coping mechanisms, whatever fears about intimacy and vulnerability, whatever psychic structures you’re still holding onto have to come down. So, what do you do, Gemini? How do you surrender? How do you transform more than you have? Although an overused word these days, self care needs to be at the top of your list this month. With your emotional and mental health demanding your attention, who’s going to be your guide during this time? A counselor or a therapist? You may feel the full moon on January 10 and the days around it very strongly as it presses on emotional buttons, so make sure you have a plan. Here’s my highest vision for you. Use January’s transformative energy for an emotional breakthrough, transmuting whatever personal shadows you have so that you can find solid ground again. Shed old skin. Remake yourself. A tall order? January’s astrology is pretty tall. And in some ways you’ll be breaking down these old patterns as you go into February and March. (You get a reprieve from March through July before using the last six months to wrap up loose ends and integrate what you’ve learned since 2018.) In the midst of all this, you may be dealing with something from the past with a partner or a former partner on or around January 8 as Jupiter meets up with the South Node of the Moon. If an old flame does reappear, how can you get the final closer you need on any unfinished business? Speaking of relationships, Mars’s arrival in Sagittarius, your relationship sign, on January 3 means that connection, interaction, and partnership will also take priority in January. You may feel inspired or encouraged to get in a new relationship in you are single. If already in a partnership, Mars may heat things up and demand your attention. That said, when Mercury, your ruling planet, arrives in Aquarius on January 16, you may be in a philosophical mood for the rest of the month. After all you’ve been through, what do you still believe in? Do you have faith? You’re also entering a time when you may have a stronger urge to travel and explore, especially other countries. Keep that in mind as the Sun arrives in Aquarius on January 20 followed by an Aquarius New Moon on January 24. You may be planning a big trip, thinking about going back to school, or contemplating life’s bigger, existential questions as you go into February. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Cancer

June 21–July 22

Cancer Glyph

We got a lot to talk about, Cancer. So, make a cup of something warm and gather close. January 2020 is a pivotal month for you as was July 2019, January 2019, and July 2018. These are key points in an unfolding story that you could say began back in 2018 if not 2008. (Yep, 2008.) What is this story about? Relationships and you. Maybe you’ve started a serious relationship in the past year and a half. Maybe you’ve been renegotiating an existing partnership. Maybe you’ve been bringing to an end an old relationship. Maybe you’re trying to figure out how to bring in new relationship. No matter how this story is unfolding for you, at the heart of this time is a need to completely transform how you connect, relate, socialize, and partner with others. Any of this ring a bell? See, Capricorn Season is already normally a time in your personal calendar when relationships are highlighted and in the first half of January there are five planets in Capricorn, all of which are pushing you to open and transform how you connect. This includes transforming old beliefs around relationships, how you communicate with a partner, any fears around commitment, and negative projections. The middle of month may be a bit intense as a Cancer lunar eclipse puts you in the spotlight. As a result, you may have a decision to make and you may be inspired or provoked into taking action on a matter. Further, the next six months will likely be another turning point for you. (Again, just reflect on what July 2019, January 2019, and July 2018 meant for you and how a common thread runs through this month.) That said, it’s also a month to focus on health, wellness, and projects. Mars’s arrival in Sagittarius on January 3 kicks off six weeks, until February 16, of healthy initiatives, new projects, and getting your life in order. (This includes getting a relationship in order.) Do keep in mind that Mars in this part of your chart can be a bit of a workaholic, so if you’re suddenly finding that you have more work to do, don’t be surprised. Just make sure you’re setting time aside for the gym, yoga, or whatever sort of physical exercise that your body enjoys. You may even want to use this time as a detox. When the Sun arrives in Aquarius on January 20 followed by an Aquarius New Moon on January 24, you’re stepping into a time in your personal calendar when it’s about making your emotional health a priority as well. Don’t be surprised if the last week of January has you soul search and digging into the deepest parts of yourself. After all you’ve been through, what have you learned about yourself and relationships? Are you ready to make a powerful shift in January? You have the perfect astrology to do so. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Leo

July 23–August 22

Leo Glyph

Are you eating right? Taking care of your body? These are the things one normally contemplates as the calendar turns to the new year. It’s just so happens that Capricorn Season lines up with the part of your chart that talks about health and wellness, work and projects. So it’s fitting, as you step in January, that you’re more focused on your physical life than usual. Keep in mind that there are five planets in Capricorn right now — an unusual amount — and the eclipses are stirring things up this month; health and work are a major priority. Let’s put some things into perspective. First, I want you to think back to 2008. Yes, that’s twelve years ago and while details may be hazy in hindsight, that was the year that you entered a sixteen year chapter of completely overhauling your relationship not only with your body but with your physical reality. Maybe it’s not so obvious, but something began that runs a thread through January’s astrology. You could also say that, ever since Saturn arrived in Capricorn in the beginning of 2018, you’ve had to have more discernment, more accountability with your overall health and wellness. Which brings us to January 2020, a month that many things converge astrologically. If you’ve historically had a block in creating a healthy relationship with your body, or getting things done, or being grounded in your body, then this month gives you a potential breakthrough. It’s also a month to face your shadow self, taking a look at patterns around negative self care, addictions, and old resentments about your body. The astrology around the days of January 10-13, from a lunar eclipse to a rare alignment of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, gives you an opportunity for a personal reinvention or rebirth. This isn’t easy energy by any means because it really means facing yourself. Be present with any fears or emotions that come up. It’s part of the process of transformation. Speaking of transformation, Uranus turns direct in Taurus on January 10, in the midst of all this. If you remember in some of my previous horoscopes, I’ve been talking about how you’re a year into a seven year story of reinventing your career and direction in life. It’s possible that by the end of this story you’re in a new profession or going in a radically different direction than you were in 2018. January 2020 is merely another step in this ongoing process. So if things shake up in your professional life in January or you wake up one morning with a sudden urge to do something different, you’ll know why. Mars is also heating things up Sagittarius starting on January 3, the part of your chart that talks about identity, self expression, creativity, and talent. You may feel more confident to be yourself in January and you may even want to have more fun in your life, which you could use if this month is more about work and going to the gym than anything else. Relationships are also a focus starting on January 20 as the Sun arrives in Aquarius, your sign of partnership and connection. Further, the Aquarius New Moon gives you your annual new beginning in all things relationships. With Saturn, your relationship planet making major alignments with Pluto, be ready to seriously restructure how you relate, connect, interact, and open up to others in January. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Key Themes: Health, wellness, diet, fitness, nutrition, how you take care of your body, projects, work, organization, service, daily life, details, schedule, career, profession, worldly life, reputation, responsibility, status, direction, identity, self expression, talents, creativity, romance, fun, relationships, other people, socialization, connection, partnership, negotiation.

Virgo

August 23–September 22

Virgo Glyph

While you’re not one of the signs getting the big squeeze this month, you’re feeling January’s bumpy astrology in a way that digs deep into questions about who you are and how you have the courage and confidence to be yourself. See, Virgo, you’re a sign that has a tendency to put others first. Sometimes you even hide or devalue your true self as well as your talents. Sometimes you just plain get in your own way. What if January could bring a major breakthrough? What if you could break down these old negative personal patterns and help you not only open to your talents but a wider view of yourself? This month’s rare alignment of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn plus a lunar eclipse gives you just that, a cosmic push to clean out the past. So, Virgo, what are you waiting for? True, the middle of January is likely going to feel intense, especially as Mercury, your ruling planet, meets up with the Sun, Saturn, and Pluto between January 10-13. If you’re feeling emotional or overwhelmed, make sure you’re prioritizing self care this month. A Cancer Full Moon lunar eclipse on January 10 puts the spotlight on friendships and community. Reach out to your social network for support as well. And if it’s lacking at the moment, how will you make 2019 a year when you bring in new friendships and social connection? Keep in mind, Virgo, that you have tendency to get stuck in a rut, so really use this time to open up to something new. By January 16 Mercury arrives in Aquarius, turning some of your focus towards health and wellness, work and projects. If January has been a little messy, how do you bring new order and structure after all the ups and downs? How do you make a new commitment to take care of yourself and treat your body with more care? The Sun’s arrival in Aquarius on January 20 followed by the Aquarius New Moon on January 24 gives you a personal reset with health and work. In fact, since it’s still the new year, what resolutions do you have to live more healthily in 2020? Use the new moon to set new intentions, especially any that break old patterns and addictions. Lastly, in the midst of this month’s intense astrology, it’s easy to lose Mars in the mix. It’s arrival in Sagittarius on January 3 heats up the part of your chart that speaks to home and family. It’s possible that you’re looking to move in January and February or make changes to where you live. The home may be noisy with activity as well; Mars isn’t exactly a peaceful influence upon this part of your life. Try to give Mars an outlet with projects in the home and renovations. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Key Themes: Personality, identity, the self, self expression, negative self patterns, fears of being self, self sabotage, creativity, talent, children, health, wellness, taking care of the body, diet, fitness, nutrition, daily habits, schedule, projects, organization, home, family, roots, foundation, living situation, move, change in the home, friends, community, social circle, social networks, looking ahead, the future.

Libra

September 23–October 22

Libra Glyph

How do you feed yourself, Libra? I don’t mean that literally. Instead, how do you get nourished? Is it through your family and the people that help support you? Contemplate that question in January. So much of this time in your life as well as this month’s astrology is all about those roots, how they’re nourished, and how you’re getting your needs met. Let’s take a step back for a moment and go back to 2008. Yes, twelve years ago. That was the year that a bigger chapter in your life opened up, one designed to dig into and — in some stages — tear out the roots of your life. As a result, you may have dealt with problematic family issues over the last decade, or you made a major move, one meant to signify a break with the past. You may have also had to separate from toxic emotional patterns … all so that you could get closer to what you really need to thrive. Keep this in mind as you step into January. There’s a lot stirring in this department and it’s powerful astrology. On one hand, Capricorn Season is naturally a time when you pull towards home, to nest, and tend to your roots. But a lunar eclipse followed by a rare meetup of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn from January 10-13 means that you may be making some serious decisions or changes in your living situation, one that threads into this story around home, family and nourishment that has been unfolding since 2008. This is your month to make a big move, confront a family or ancestral pattern, and draw a line between the past and the present. If old emotions do come up in January, how will you have the courage to release them finally? The lunar eclipse on January 10 also puts the spotlight on career and direction. You may have to decide what course you want to take your life in. You may also be hearing about a job or looking to make a switch in your professional life. Doors are opening and closing in January. That said, Venus, your ruling planet, arrives in Pisces on January 13. For the rest of the month you’re feeling sensitive and more intuitive than usual. You’re also more focused on health and wellness, work and projects, especially projects in the home. We also can’t forget that Mars is in Sagittarius starting January 3, a sign that it will be in all month long. As you deal with things on the home front, you may be hearing more from people through messages, texts, and phone calls. Conversations may be a little pointed, too. Lastly, as the Sun moves into Aquarius on January 20 followed by a new moon on January 24, you start to shift your focus towards being yourself and asserting who you are despite a story from the past that has prevented you from being you. Make creativity and self expression a priority as you go into February, and tend to your inner child. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Key Themes: Home, family, roots, foundation, inner core, emotional needs, nourishment, toxic family or ancestral patterns, boundaries, memories, the past, mother, father, feelings, career, professional life, worldly life, ambition, new direction, job change, reputation, recognition, spotlight, the public, self expression, identity, persona, creativity, talent, leisure, health, wellness, projects, work, taking care of the body, diet, fitness, nutrition, trips, travel, movement, information, ideas, conversations, messages, talks.

Scorpio

October 23–November 21

Scorpio Glyph

There are so many big stories weaving in and out of each other this month. Where to begin? Let’s start simple. Mars, your ruling planet, arrives in Sagittarius on January 3, the sign of travel, adventure, education, and faith. You may feel more outgoing, restless, and wanting to set out and see the world. Sagittarius also happens to be one of your money signs and, until February 16, you’re focused on your material life, earning more income, and gathering the resources you need. It may also be a time of more spending, but with Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius in serious Capricorn, the spending that you are doing can’t be frivolous. Which brings me to January’s bigger story. Capricorn is normally the time in your personal calendar when you focus on how you communicate and anything related to how you exercise your mind. And if you go all the back to 2008 — yes, 2008 — you’ve been powerfully transforming how you communicate over the last twelve years. See, that was the year that Pluto first entered the sign of Capricorn, a planet known for completely tearing down the past so that something new can emerge. Then, back in the start of 2018, Saturn arrived in Capricorn to make sure you were taking your voice seriously. Here were are, in January 2020, and hopefully you can see how much you’ve changed in how you speak, learn, and think in the last decade because in many ways this month represents a time when you have to have a big breakthrough in your voice. If there are any remaining fears or limitations, use a titanic lineup of planets on January 10-13 to really push through them. You may even have to make a serious decision at this time, one that has lasting effect. A lunar eclipse on January 10 may help you to see the bigger picture and asks you to consider what you believe in and how you see yourself in the world. Long distance or foreign travel may be a priority with this lunar eclipse, too. The other big story this month is relationships. Although not quite as long as story, it’s important to remember that you’re a year into a seven year story of reinventing how you connect, interact, socialize, and partner with other people. Keep this in mind when Uranus turns direct on January 10. New people may be coming into your life this month, ones that are completely different than before. You may be seeing an existing relationship shake up. Regardless, Uranus demands authenticity and liberation from the past. If you are in a relationship, you may need to renegotiate how you connect with one another. When Venus arrives in Pisces on January 13, a sign that it will be in for the rest of the month, it’s a perfect time for taking this energy of bringing in something new and putting it towards more romance and fun, especially with an existing partner if you’re in a relationship. By January 20, when the Sun arrives in Aquarius, and the Aquarius New Moon on January 24, you enter a time that stretches into February that’s all about home, family, and nesting. Although you may be pulling away from the world later this month, you’re still having to contend with this month’s serious energy and how it changes and transform how you interact with family and how you get your emotional needs met. Don’t forget to make yourself a priority. You’re worth it. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Key Themes: Voice, communication, ideas, information, learning, study, school, classes, serious choices, using words carefully, trips, long distance travel, foreign travel, education, faith, truth, belief, philosophy, religion, law, conviction, rallying behind a cause, money, income, spending, resources, material needs, value, worth, self worth, home, family, living situation, roots, the past, memories, emotional patterns, ancestral patterns, relationships, other people, partnership, interaction, socialization, connection, negotiation, compromise, new relationship, relationship change, relationship reinvention.

Sagittarius

November 22–December 21

Sagittarius Glyph

When Mars arrives in Sagittarius on January 3, you kick of six weeks of new initiatives, action, and motivation. Mars gives you a bit of pep, so if you’ve been feeling low energy in December, you’re ready to start the new year on the right foot. And since it’s the new year, time to think of all those healthy resolutions one’s supposed to consider this time of year. It helps that Uranus, the planet of reinvention and revolution, is in Taurus, which is the part of your chart that talks about health and wellness. When it turns direct on January 10, you may be considering making a major or even radical change to how you take care of your body, your diet, fitness, or some fundamental aspect of your daily life. Since Uranus has been in Taurus since March 2019, a sign that it will be in for the next six years, you’ve likely already been making changes in this part of your life all last year. Just use January and it’s super serious Capricorn Season to make lasting healthy choices, ones that break free from past patterns, especially anything that’s made you feel like your body was not worth taking care of. In fact there’s a lot going on around the middle of January as major planets converge and push a powerful narrative to the forefront. Think back to 2008, the year that started a major story in your life, one centered on money, resources, and your relationship with your material life. Although it may not be apparent, something from that time in your life threads itself through the astrology of January 2020. With five planets in Capricorn this month, especially a historic meetup of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, it’s time for a significant transformation in how you earn a living, how you spend your money, and how you value yourself. Jupiter, your ruling planet, is also in Capricorn as of December 2019, and will be until the end of 2020, so you’re already clued into needing to create more material stability in the new year. What’s in the way? What fears about money and stability are you still holding onto? Do you not value yourself? Use the time around January 10-13 to let these things go, especially any negative emotional or family patterns around money that having an impact. A lunar eclipse on January 10 puts the deepest parts of yourself in the spotlight. You may be doing some soul searching this month as a result as you examine deeply held emotions, traumas, and fears. Again, all in order to let them go. With Mercury, your relationship and career planet also in the mix with Saturn and Pluto, you may need to transform your ambitions as well as how you connect with people this month, too. The Aquarius New Moon on January 24 may reverberate a lot of January’s eclipse energies. Capricorn

December 22–January 19

Capricorn Glyph

We’ve got a lot to talk about Capricorn. Some of these points may be familiar and it’s probably not a bad idea to go back and reread your December 2019 horoscopes for some added context, but it’s important to reiterate the following. You have to change. What does that even mean? Change?? Let’s zoom out for a moment. Think back to 2008. That was the year that Pluto first entered Capricorn, kicking off a sixteen year story of you completely transforming yourself. I don’t need to tell you that the last twelve years have likely been hard. (If you were born in late December, early January, you know exactly what I’m talking about.) At the root of this time is a process of shedding the layers of self that are not really you and getting back to the heart of who you are. You’re not the same person you were in 2008, but the process is still ongoing. In fact, when Saturn arrived in Capricorn in the start of 2018, you began a three year process of holding yourself accountable and responsible for making these lasting changes. Now here we are, it’s January 2020. Saturn and Pluto are coming together in Capricorn for a rare meetup and it’s as if all the work you’ve been doing over the last decade has led to this point. Whatever you’re still holding onto, whatever vision of yourself that no longer lines up, whatever negative patterns of self that you’re still trying to exist in, they have to tear down. With all this Pluto energy in the mix this month, it’s an imperative. Face the darkest parts of yourself so you can powerfully and profoundly transform them. Through this you’re finding real power, Capricorn. It’s not an easy process and it’s possible that the days around January 10-13 may be physically, emotionally, and spiritually intense. Make self care a priority. Change your thinking. Be open to a new vision of yourself, even if it’s completely different than how you were conditioned to see yourself. Reach out to others. In fact, the lunar eclipse on January 10 puts the spotlight on relationships. With everything that’s going on, make sure you’re opening up to others, especially partnership. If you’re single, the next six months may bring a serious relationship. If you’re already in a relationship, how will you and a partner make a new commitment to one another? You may also have to make a serious decision about a partnership if it’s no longer working. With all this going on this month, the other astrology seems somewhat trivial. That said, Mars’s arrival in Sagittarius on January 3 brings you into the quiet, most spiritual part of your chart. It’s a time of rest, reflection, and recuperation. As you profoundly transform this month — it may not be clear at first just how much — you may need more rest, or need to retreat to quietly search your soul. You may also be more intuitive, so listen to your intuition as well as your dreams. The Sun’s arrival in Aquarius on January 20 followed by an Aquarius New Moon begins to shift some of the pressure off. The rest of the month focuses you on your material life, from money to gathering the resources you need to create a stable, grounded life. With Saturn and Pluto still close in the sky into February, continue to find the courage to leave the old you behind. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Aquarius

January 20–February 18

Aquarius Glyph

Aquarius, if you’ve been paying attention to some of the things I’ve been writing for the past year or so, you’ll know that you’re in a chapter of your life where it’s about really focusing on the inner and spiritual work. You may have lived 2018-2019 feeling like you’re in a liminal space between two major chapters of your life. It’s been a time to search your soul, reflect on the life you’ve lived, and let go of the baggage that you don’t want to bring into the next 30 years of your life. (Yes, 30 years.) Capricorn Season, especially with five planets in Capricorn during the first half of January, means that you’re doing this work in earnest this month. Unlike the other signs who are experiencing January’s powerful, transformative energy in more tangible ways, you’re experiencing it behind the scenes. True, Saturn’s rare meetup with Pluto on January 12 means that something about you has to profoundly change, it may mean that you’re feeling this as a shift in awareness of yourself and the self destructive patterns that lurk in your blindspot, waiting to be let go of. Nevertheless, if you’re feeling overwhelmed emotionally or psychically this month, make sure you’re getting the self care you need. The lunar eclipse on January 10 makes this a demand. In fact, you may be needed to take a powerful new look at how you take care of your body, how you inhabit your body, and how you tend to the necessities of living. This may result in you making new decisions about diet, fitness, and wellness. (‘Tis the season for this sort of thing.) Make sure you’re really tending to your health this month, especially if it’s an area that’s been neglected. (If there’s an existing health issue, the eclipse may bring something new to light or resolve something that began in 2018.) The other big story this month is Uranus’s direct turn on January 10 in your sign of home and family. It’s important to remember that you’re a year into a seven year story of reinventing what home and family mean to you. Maybe you’ve made a big move. Maybe you’re planning a big move. Nevertheless, at the core of this time is a need to break away from the past and to experience emotional connection on a whole new level. Pay attention to what’s coming up around January 10 because it may thread into a story that weaves its way over the next six years. That said, for all the transformation work you’re doing this month, it’s important to network and socialize. With Mars in Sagittarius all month long, you’re feeling motivated to connect with friends and spend time on your community. By January 20 the Sun arrives in Aquarius and you kick off a new birthday season! 2020 is going to give you a taste of the next big chapter in your life, so use the Aquarius New Moon on January 24 to wish, hope, and dream of where you’d like your life to head towards over the coming years. But, in the meantime, be sure to keep clearing anything old that takes up emotional and psychic space that you don’t want to bring with you into 2020 and beyond. Continue to prioritize your spiritual and physical health. Clean out, organize, and prepare. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you? Book your one-on-one consultation now.

Key Themes: Spiritual health, existential searching, retreat, reflection, the unconscious, blindspots, dreams, intuition, the hidden self, spiritual connection, meditation, mysticism, transformation, breakdown, breakthrough, breaking addictions, shedding the ego, friendships, social connection, social network, community, groups, home, family, living situation, breaking old emotional patterns, emotional needs, emotional freedom, the past, memories, a major move, roots, foundation, transplanting yourself, new beginnings, clearing space, letting go.

Pisces

February 19–March 20

Pisces Glyph

I was doing one of my weekly live videos recently and when I finished an explanation for Pisces, a commenter mentioned that they were so glad that career was no longer a focus in the new year. True, while it’s not a primary focus, but … in January Mars arrives in Sagittarius for a six week stay. And, if you may recall, Sagittarius is your career sign. This means that from January 3 until February 16 you’re working hard, going after your professional goals, and taking on more responsibility. In many ways Mars picks up on or reinvigorates some of the changes and professional ambitions you work towards during 2019. That said, all eyes are on the Capricorn part of your chart this month. With five planets in Capricorn the first half of January it may feel like career continues to be a priority in the new year. After all, Capricorn is a sign that by its nature pushes us to be better versions of ourselves, helps us to make commitments, and honor our responsibilities. As a result, you may be doing a lot of professional networking in January and carving out a bigger vision of what you want to create and achieve in the world. Capricorn also happens to be the part of your chart that connections you with friendships, community, and your social circle. Here’s the thing. If you think back to the start of 2018, you may be able to clearly see how friendships and community have shifted in the last two years. Maybe you saw some friendships end. Maybe you’ve struggled with social connection. Or, maybe you felt more focus and resolve to make new connections. (If you think back even further, this part of your life has been undergoing massive transformation ever since Pluto arrived in Capricorn in 2008.) Keep this in mind because there’s a lot of seismic astrology in January, which means that you need to break through whatever’s keeping you in old or even negative patterns around socialization. If you’ve been isolated, what’s going to help you open up and connect? If you’ve been caught in toxic patterns with friends, how can you finally break free? Whatever decisions you’re making and initiatives you’re taking have lasting power as you go into 2020 and beyond. You may find January a bit emotionally and psychically intense (you feel everything, Pisces!), so make sure you’re getting the self care that you need, especially in the days around January 10-13. The lunar eclipse on January 10 demands that you prioritize yourself and come back to yourself, especially if you’ve been afraid to be fully here and present in your life. The other thing about this month is that it highlights a transformation and reinvention in how you speak, think, and communicate. When Uranus turns direct on January 10, be open to new insights or perspectives that may feel like they’re coming out of the blue. Say what you’ve always wanted to say. It’s important for you to be heard right now. Then on January 20 the Sun arrives in Aquarius, bringing into the part of your chart that talks about retreat, reflection, and shedding the past. As you get ready for your upcoming birthday season, you may be in a contemplative mood. What don’t you want to bring into your new year? The new moon on January 24 and the days and weeks beyond may help you to powerfully let something go that you’ve been perhaps afraid to let go of. Want a deeper look at how December will affect you?
