Welcome to the Gemini New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we learn about voice and communication. It’s a lunar month to get curious, to have new experiences, and gather new perspectives. It’s also a time to look at our relationship with choice. The new moon is exact on June 18, 2023 at 12:37 am ET, 26 degrees Gemini. That’s 9:37 pm Los Angeles on June 17, 5:37 am London on June 18, 6:37 am Johannesburg, 2:37 pm Sydney, and 4:37 pm Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings, a time to bring in the energy of renewal, to turn the page and experience life through a new zodiac sign and archetype. The new moon and the aspects it makes is a lens into our experiences and lessons we’ll be learning over the coming four weeks.

Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac, which is to say that it encompasses an aspect of life that is foundational and part of our early development. Gemini, and its ruling planet, bring us language. It pushes us to find words, to share what we’re thinking, to crawl and explore our immediate environment. Gemini invites us, sometimes impishly so, to try everything. Variety is the spice of life as the saying goes.

And, so, over the coming four weeks we’re doing just that. Trying everything. Finding our curiosity. Weighing our options. We’re on the move, avoiding boredom at all costs.

While that may sound a bit free flowing, we’ve got the energy of Saturn on watch over the coming weeks, like a parent or guardian. Between Saturn turning retrograde on June 17 and Mercury square Saturn in the chart of the Gemini New Moon, it’s safe to say that we can’t just try everything with abandon. We need to cultivate some maturity and responsibility to make wise choices and honor our commitments. Additionally, home and family may need our attention in the coming days and weeks. We may need to make a serious decision about our living situation or household. A parent may need our help.

Then there’s Neptune to make life a little hazy. While Saturn can be razor sharp in its clarity, Neptune is quite the opposite. A square between the Gemini Sun and Moon to Neptune in Pisces means that it’s a time of smart, calculated new beginnings, but ones where we need to honor that there are forces greater than us, that we need to open up to divinely lead plans, not just our own.

I’ve noticed that Neptune squares to the new moon bring up a lot of emotion in the coming lunar month. Best to channel it wisely through journaling, meditation, self reflection, dream work, and situations that lend a therapeutic ear.

That said, prioritize discovery this month. It’s just that with Neptune those discoveries may lay beyond this world and thus intangible and intuitive. The head and the heart and the spirit need to find ways to align this month as well.

Saturn and Neptune, although not in aspect, occupy the same sign of Pisces. It’s a funky, transcendent lunar month that gets creative with Gemini’s natural curiosity and voice.
