Welcome to the Cancer New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the page turns to home and family. Cancer is our roots, our past, the heart and soul we need to grow our lives. It’s a lunar month to reprioritize what supports us and what really matters. The full moon is exact on June 25, 2025 at 6:32 am ET, 4 degrees Cancer. That’s 3:32 am Los Angeles, 11:32 am London, 12:32 pm Johannesburg, 4:02 pm New Delhi, 8:32 pm Sydney, and 10:32 pm Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. They create a stage for our lives to unfold within a four-week period. Our experiences are colored by the zodiac sign the new moon falls in, they create a focal point in our lives and may coincide with events and turning points.
Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac, but it has the distinction of being the first water sign. If water is the element of emotions and connection, Cancer is primal water — the emotions of family and home, care and nurturing. It’s the archetype of the mother. It’s the primal emotional force of what we all need to feel safe and secure.
As you can imagine, “home and family” may come with complicated feelings. Or perhaps we are yearning to be mothered and cared for in a way that we never received. Cancer Season always gets to the heart of things and reminds us that the past is never too far away.
In its highest expression, a Cancer New Moon gives us a reset, a chance to turn our focus on some of the most intimate spaces in our lives. Perhaps we will use this time to prepare for a move or to make changes around the home. Perhaps we will spend more quality time with family and loved ones. Perhaps we have a desire to create a family of our own. Or, perhaps we have something from our past to revisit, including childhood memories and our relationship with our parents.
With a conjunction to Jupiter, the next four weeks will not play small. Jupiter inspires us to dream big, to hope for better horizons. We may be seeking and exploring the end of June and into July. As a result, we may see notable symbolic new beginnings or changes in the narrative. Jupiter always gives confidence, grace, and generosity.
Despite Jupiter in Cancer’s overflowing cup, we can’t lose sight of Jupiter’s close square to Saturn and Neptune in Aries. Saturn is always a dose of reality, even alongside Neptune. There is a tension this month between our desire for more and the work and commitment needed to bring our desires into the real world. Both Jupiter and Saturn move the tectonic plates of our lives. And, as a result, we may see personal (and collective) movement over the next four weeks.
When we look at the whole of the new moon, we may be stepping into a July where we need to make some adjustments or rearrangements in our lives so that we can make space for the things that really matter and what truly nurtures us.
Cancer and the Moon is emotional connectivity and Saturn (and Capricorn) is the physical connectivity that the emotions wind their way around. We can use this tissue to build for the future. But we may also need to examine where we still feel the ties that bind us to the past in order to make a change. (To learn more about the importance of Saturn and Saturn in Aries, watch my 3-hour webinar, Saturn in Aries: 2025-2028.)
Finally, it’s critical that we understand that this new moon directly connects to the Aries New Moon solar eclipse of March 29. While today’s new moon is not an eclipse, it will create a ripple of eclipse energy throughout the next four weeks. Whatever new beginnings the solar eclipse planted will begin to manifest in July, if they haven’t already.
