Today Mercury will station direct after three weeks of winding its way back through Capricorn. During this time we’ve had to reexamine our word, our choices, and our responsibility for the things we manifest in our lives.
Capricorn’s a sobering sign. We see things for what they are, laid out in black and white. So, how do we make a change? Lucky for us, Mercury will station direct on Pluto.
Imagine a clock. Instead of two hands or even three, it has ten — maybe more — and each hand moves at different rates. If the Moon is one hand, it moves around the clock every 28 days. Pluto, however, makes one rotation around the clock every 248 years. (Let that sink in a moment.) Astrology is just another way to tell time, except you’re using an interplay of orbital cycles, archetypes, and mythology to tell time.
I have a point to all this.
When I say something like, Mercury is stationing direct on Pluto, it means that Mercury will appear to come to a halt (it’s an optical illusion, BTW) on the position in the sky that Pluto currently occupies. Like to hands on the clock lining up, it tells us that it’s time for our words, thoughts, ideas, and choices to undergo a powerful transformation.
Remember, Pluto is non-negotiable transformation. And Mercury will square Uranus (two clock hands making a 90 degree angle). This is the archetypical equivalent to setting something on fire and walking away.
If you’re a Gemini, Virgo, or have major planets/angles in those signs, you’re feeling the squeeze. Something has to change, evolve. If I’ve learned anything with Uranus and Pluto is that you can’t fight it.
Hey Katie,
I’m contemplating some designs for an app that overlays 2 or more star charts to visually represent the angles of the planets at different intervals of time (a simple example being ones natal chart overlayed on today’s, a more complex example being a variety of charts for a social or hierarchical system)
It’s funny you make the clock metaphor, as I’m hoping to not only better illustrate the planets, but also to visualize complimentary/opposing forces and meanings associated with them. Think of gravitational pulls between the planets, or solar winds changing shapes and interactions of their electromagnetic fields. Imagine the phase of wave patterns from orbiting planets as our solar system makes its way along its trajectory through our galaxy.
Some of these calculations might benefit from a network of computers to crunch numbers, for example relating different fields to one another.
In all this I wonder what I can learn and contribute, what new patterns emerge, gaps drawn closer and questions raised among different schools of experience and thought.
I’ll keep you posted as this progresses! At the very least it will make some cool, cool sculptures.
