Welcome to the Aries New Moon! Welcome to the solar eclipse. This is the time in the lunar calendar when we turn a new leaf. Aries is the sign of starting over, of spring and renewal. Ruled by Mars, Aries is also the sign of leadership, action, and individuality. The new moon solar eclipse will be exact on March 29, 2025 at 6:58 am EDT, 9 degrees. That’s 3:58 am Los Angeles, 10:58 am London, 12:58 pm Johannesburg, 4:28 pm New Delhi, 9:58 pm Sydney, 11:58 pm Auckland.
There’s a synchronicity to both the new moon and the energies of Aries, an event and a sign that speaks of new beginnings. With a new moon in Aries, we’re ready to plant our seeds. It’s a mark of inception that will follow through the coming weeks. But a solar eclipse in Aries? It’s now a powerful reset that creates a stage for our lives to unfold for the next six months.
While Aries-inspired new beginnings will be the dominant focus over the coming weeks, this eclipse comes as the finale in a series of eclipses that have activated Aries and Libra since the first Aries eclipse on April 20, 2023. (Other eclipses included October 14, 2023; March 25, 2024; April 8, 2024; and October 2, 2024.)
Typically an Aries New Moon is a push to take action, to find our courage, to be a leader, to reassert our individuality. A solar eclipse will place this energy over a larger arc of time, which we will feel in varying degrees until September 2025.
Mars in Cancer is the ruler of the eclipse, which is to say that Cancer and its archetype receives the energy of the eclipse. New beginnings in the home or with family … a need to take action in the household … starting over with a family member or parent … having the courage to move on from the past … a need to protect our family. With a trine to Saturn, we have support to build something new, especially anything that is more in alignment with our deeper or spiritual values.
Let’s not forget that Mars is square Chiron in Aries during this eclipse. While a subtle influence — Chiron works on emotional and psychic levels — it does mean that either we will be motivated to make a healing over the next six months, letting go of the past, or that the eclipse may press on a deep nerve. Do we have the courage to move on? (Read On Chiron, Suffering, and Knots.)
That said, the energy of the eclipse is primarily concentrated between Aries and Cancer. The Moon is in Aries, Mars is in Cancer. This is something called a mutual reception in astrology; the ruling planets are in each other’s signs. It gives Mars the ability to bring its energy back to Aries, which may ignite or give fuel to something new in our lives.
As a result, the coming weeks and months are not just about new beginnings, they may push us to take action and to reconnect with our desires. Saturn’s arrival in Aries on May 25 will initiate a period of concretization and solidification of this energy. Whatever seeds we plant now will become real in June, July, and August.
