Welcome to the Aries Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on action, drive, power, and motivation. It’s a sign that inspires us to take the lead and strike out on our own. It brings new beginnings and can help us reinvigorate our lives. The full moon is exact on October 17, 2024 at 7:27 am EDT, 24 degrees Aries-Libra. That’s 4:27 am Los Angeles, 12:27 pm London, 1:27 pm Johannesburg, 4:57 pm New Delhi, 10:27 pm Sydney, and 12:27 am Auckland on October 18.
Full moons are decision points. Under their light, they can demand action. They can also coincide with events and personal turning points. The seeds planted at the new moon have now come into bloom.
While today’s full moon is not an eclipse, it comes just two weeks after a solar eclipse and is a link in a story that has been unfolding since April 2023 between the signs of Libra and Aries. To understand Aries is to understand Libra, its opposing sign. In order to know ourselves, we need others to reflect ourselves back to us. To be in a relationship requires a healthy amount of individuality.
That said, an Aries Full Moon is always a provocateur. It’s ruled by Mars, a planet that typically knows what it wants and doesn’t hesitate to go after it.
Note that Mars is in Cancer, which takes the energy of the full moon and points it towards a sign that is known for home and family, a need for emotional comfort and care. This is a full moon that’s about our relationship with the people we love or the people with whom we may have very complicated connections. It’s a full moon that may hit on equally complicated emotions, past memories, childhood scars, and deep instincts.
It’s important to understand that Aires is the first fire sign of the zodiac and Cancer is the first water sign … primal fire and primal water. Which is to say, we need to take action to shore up our foundation. Water is the element that helps us to forge emotional bonds. With Mars in Cancer, there’s a sense of tribal connections. It’s as if the full moon says, “find your people” … “protect what you love and what you need”.
Nevertheless, this is a highly reactive full moon, one that can get the best of us if we are not anchored and grounded. Mars is opposite Pluto, a powerhouse combination that can be used for transformation. Channel its energy in proactive and positive ways. Go for a walk or a run. Start a project or initiative in the home. Spend time with those who are like family and bring out the best in us. Get back in touch with our earliest desires and needs as well as our childhood wishes and dreams.
