When Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012, we shifted into a two and a half year period, until September 17, 2015, of learning Scorpio themes. In short, death and rebirth, power, intimacy, and shadow. Note that Saturn takes 29.5 years to travel around the zodiac and so its entry into a new zodiac sign is a big deal shift. (I paint Saturn in Scorpio with broader brush strokes in another article I wrote.)
Previous to Scorpio, Saturn was in the sign of Libra, which meant that we were learning Libra themes — one-on-one relationships, beauty, and equity. So if the planet Saturn represents a process of maturation, then we’re collectively maturing through experiences that tap into the Scorpio archetype. What is the Scorpio archetype?
- ground up transformation
- things that make us uncomfortable
- the shadow side of the human experience
- deep psychological healing
- taboo
- legacies
- death
- decay
- release
- debt
- taxes
- wealth
- shared resources
- power
- intimacy
- sexuality
- vulnerability
- shamanism
And what is Saturn?
- maturation
- testing
- structure
- seriousness
- foundation
- discipline
- authority
- hard work
- the father
- limitations
- ambition
- Father Time
- endings
So put the two concepts together. We’re doing Saturn through Scorpio. We’re testing the structures of our vulnerability. We’re getting disciplined about how we share our wealth. We’re learning lessons of intimacy. We’re laying a new foundation for our power and authority. We’re experiencing limitations in our shared resources. We’re maturing through things that make us uncomfortable.
Play with the bulleted points above. Play with the syntax. If you know your natal chart, find where 0 degrees of Scorpio is and the house it is in. If Saturn is in your 4th by transit, for example, you’re experiencing lessons of home, family, and nurturing through the prism of the Scorpio archetype. And if you’re a Scorpio sun sign, this will likely be a heavier time for you as you take up the mantel of responsibility and learn lessons in personal responsibility.
Hopefully all this fancy astrology talk will start to read more clearly.
I have a cap ascendant. Having a tough time during saturn in scoprio. scorpio is at 21.36.40 at house 11. saturn cusping my 5th house. now a year into saturn in scorpio. also going through uranus opposition uranus. its been scorching. i am letting go of my friendships, children are growing up and i am having to let go there, i am having to confront my past rebelliousness and coming to terms with it, having to let go of my roots..i hardly know myself or what i want anymore. also going through intense introspection. my husband (for 18 years) is baffled at my behaviour! actually, so am I. 🙂
Wonderful and painful yet transforming. Now I read this article about scorpio as today a phoenix rising from the ashes starts a new path a new whole self rises on the threshold of a new dimensional shift. Your article is truth and the depth of darkness and the abyss of me embracing my prince of darkness and accepting my loss of self through self sabotage and insecure self sacrifice and saying no and balancing the past karmic debt and changing the trans dimensional loss of self to stand and fight for my self and the manipulator’s of my soul(bless them) was a fight for my soul to evolve or de evolve. Your article is now apt and well written as the description of this journey of my last eight years could only be believed in another’s imagination yet for me this arduous journey to the depths of my abyss was real and I day after day held my faith of my self as light and dark and wholeness and I transformed not just once but several times through karmic dust and embracing my reality and journey of being human in this 3dimesional duality I balanced and changed my behaviour through the lineage of my disparate imbalanced parts of my self by accepting my mirrors of self in my parents and after these many transformations and changes over 10 + years came to the point of Saturn as described and another journey of self.. And now its time to be human again and be humble and let others be in the light and I calmly and humbly shine my light on their uniqueness and allow them to grow and evolve in resonance with my experiences and wisdom of my self…I am, and evolve to be of service for others to face their mirrors and truths of themselves and forgive and grow and love all as I have learned to love myself….Deep and to long maybe but this article for me to review in reflection after this war of self lightens me and was meant to be…Thanks, you speak from the heart and seem to flow well in your balance of astrology and our human ness…David 11-11
