Virgo New Moon

Virgo New Moon: Harvest

Welcome to the Virgo New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we turn our attention to the practical details of daily living. Virgo governs over our health and wellness, nutrition and fitness, work and projects. It also has a great instinct to serve and help others. The new moon will be exact on September 10, 2026, at 11:27 pm ET, 18 degrees Virgo. That’s 8:28 pm Los Angeles, 4:27 am London on September 11, 5:27 am Johannesburg, 8:57 am New Delhi, 1:27 pm Sydney, and 3:27 pm Auckland.

New moons are new beginnings. They set the stage for the next four weeks, shaping our priority and focus. New moons also plant a seed, one that may take two weeks to reveal itself under the light of the full moon. Additionally, we use this time to plant seeds and set intentions for the coming lunar month.

Virgo makes the world go round. Without its symbolic influence, nothing would get done. There would be no systems. We would have no consciousness of the importance of health and hygiene. While Virgo may not have the glamor of Leo, the sign previous, or the charm of Libra, the sign that follows, it nevertheless plays an indispensable role.

Since the zodiac is a map and a calendar, when we come to the Virgo New Moon, it’s time to take stock of our earthly lives. Do we need to pay more attention to our health? Is there a long overdue project that needs our prioritization? Are we feeling a call to be of service to others?

Virgo is also the time of harvest, at least here in the northern hemisphere. We gather resources, working to prepare for the winter months ahead. Regardless of what part of the world we are in, it’s a lunar month to harvest what we have been growing over the last six months.

This Virgo New Moon finds Mercury, its ruler at 0 Libra. As much as Virgo is about the functional details of our lives, Libra helps us to bring beauty into lives over the next four weeks. Zero Libra also symbolically lines up with one of the four directions, and, as a result, we may need to set a new course or go in a new direction. Let’s not also forget that Libra is the sign of the scales. There may be a demand for balance as well as equity, fairness, and justice over the coming weeks.

Although wide, it’s worth noting that Mercury is opposite Saturn at the time of the new moon. There will be an additional call to set boundaries, honor our limits, make commitments, and invest in our relationships into October. But just as Mercury is opposite Saturn, it’s also opposite Neptune. Can we set boundaries with compassion? Can we honor our limits with empathy? Can we bring sacredness to the rituals of our daily lives?

While this new moon is not an eclipse, it comes four weeks after a solar eclipse and will build upon the new narratives that were seeded at the time of the eclipse. The new moon is also an echo to the Virgo-Pisces eclipses of last September, a thread to the events that moved our lives in 2025.

In short, after the ups and downs of August and the eclipses, use this Virgo lunar month to take stock, to take a sharp look at what is working and not working. Boundaries may need to be drawn in September, even if it’s investing in the people and organizations that positively support our lives.
