Welcome to the Virgo New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when our attention turns to the practical details of daily life, from work and projects, to health and wellness. Since this is a solar eclipse, Virgo themes will be our main focus for the next six months. The Virgo New Moon solar eclipse will be exact on September 21, 2025 at 3:54 pm ET, 29 degrees Virgo. That’s 12:54 pm Los Angeles, 8:54 pm London, 9:54 pm Johannesburg, 1:24 am New Delhi on September 22, 5:54 am Sydney, 7:54 am Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. But a solar eclipse, it’s a powerful reset, a change in the narrative that sets us in a new direction. Each solar eclipse opens a six month chapter, until the next solar eclipse. Our experiences will be symbolically influenced by the themes and archetypes of the zodiac sign of the eclipse.
It’s not uncommon for events and major milestones to fall along the eclipses. They are the agents of fate. They herald the changes that mark our lives, from moves and new jobs to marriages and births. They can also signal endings, a powerful reminder that one chapter of our lives has ended so that another can begin.
With a Virgo solar eclipse, a certain area of our life now takes center stage and will continue to be a priority into early 2026. That said, Virgo, as a sign, has predictable needs and wants. Regardless of what Virgo represents in our own personal astrology, then next six months, on some level, will be about order and perfection, cleanliness and an attention to detail, taking care of our health and daily rituals and habits, service and helping others.
Virgo, at its deepest level, is the desire to make ourselves — and ultimately the world — into a better version. (Pro tip: Virgo is the 6th sign of the zodiac and Virgo’s 6th sign is Aquarius.)
This is actually our second Virgo New Moon of the year, a rarity because we typically only get one new moon in each sign. So, in a way, we need to consider the August 23 Virgo New Moon at 0 degrees. While not an eclipse, it set us up for the lunar eclipse of September 7. It was a prologue for the larger story that will make up our next six months.
This new moon, however, is at the other end of the sign, at 29 degrees, the last degree, and a degree that comes with some baggage. What have we learned? The 29th degree invokes Saturn, a planet that takes 29 years to cross the zodiac. Saturn is karma, but it is also the maturity that comes with putting in the work.
Speaking of Saturn, the new moon solar eclipse directly opposes Saturn at 28 degrees Pisces. This is a major influence that will shape our experiences into February 2026. A Saturn opposition is a reality check, a demand for commitment and accountability. With the lens of Virgo, we will all need to take a very close look at ourselves and our lives. What is in order? What is out of order? Where can we do better? (Read Saturn in Pisces: Sign by Sign)
Ultimately we will need to learn the lessons of Saturn in Pisces, lessons that touch on the existential and spiritual. We will have to adopt the dedication and commitment of Virgo to advance ourselves. Through this commitment we will reach for Pisces, a sign that helps us to find answers to life’s greater questions as well as the possibility of unity, peace, and compassion. It’s a high bar, but Pisces is the finality of the zodiac. In order to leave the karmic wheel, we have to master Pisces. (Read Saturn in Pisces: The Look Within).
That said, when we look at the chart of the Virgo solar eclipse, we find Mercury, its ruler, over in Libra, which is to say that Libra receives the energy of the eclipse. Part of our work over the next six months is around relationships — not just our personal and intimate relationships, but how we relate to one another.
Libra is also a cardinal sign, which means that the next six months will initiate us into a new season or a new direction. New people may come into our lives. We may need to also reevaluate those who are in our lives. A trine from Uranus and Pluto will give us the opportunity to make radical changes that will ultimately be for the better.
If you are in AUSTRALIA or NZ, this forecast applies approximately for September 20-22, 2025.
