Welcome to the Gemini Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on information and ideas, learning and education, travel and new horizons. Gemini loves variety and invites us to seek the same. It also spotlights the power of choice. The full moon is exact on December 15, 2024 at 4:02 am ET, 23 degrees Gemini-Sagittarius. That’s 1:02 am Los Angeles, 9:02 am London, 11:02 am Johannesburg, 2:32 pm New Delhi, 8:02 pm Sydney, and 10:02 pm Auckland.
Full moons are provocative. They put a matter in the spotlight. Seeds planted at the time of the new moon two weeks before have come to fruition. They can also coincide with events and even decisive moments.
For the last few weeks we’ve been in Sagittarius Season, a season designed to expand our world. Perhaps we’ve thought about making a long distance journey or planning to visit a far flung destination. Or maybe it’s our mind that’s grown, seeking answers not in other lands but in books, philosophy, and religion. Ruled by Jupiter, without Sagittarius we wouldn’t want more out of life, we wouldn’t ask questions, we would stay in the same small space.
Gemini seems much smaller by comparison, but it plays an integral role to Sagittarius. It is the energy of multiplicity. A letter becomes a word. A thought becomes an idea. Gemini inspires us to try everything. Life is about options, after all. Even if we sometimes forget that.
We also forget that choice needs maturity and responsibility.
This Gemini Full Moon does a couple of important things. It highlights Jupiter, also in Gemini, a dynamic opposition with the Sagittarius Sun that opens us up, perhaps dramatically so, to new ideas and new perspectives. It’s an outpouring of conversation and movement.
The full moon also comes hours before Mercury turns direct in Sagittarius, a swap of energies. The ruler of Sagittarius is in Gemini and the ruler of Gemini is in Sagittarius. (This is what’s called a mutual reception in astrology.) Perhaps we’re on the receiving end of a big insight or inspiration.
But the full moon is also square Saturn in Pisces as is Mercury. Saturn pumps the brakes and may be a dose of reality for all these big insights and new ideas. Or, Saturn is simply saying, we need to use this full moon to make responsible decisions, to find the responsibility and the maturity to choose wisely.
Ask yourself … Are you committed? Are you taking a matter seriously? Where do you need to be more conscious of your choices and actions? Are you being presented with an opportunity to step into a role of maturity and authority? Or, has a current situation or relationship reached its natural conclusion?
There is also a square to Neptune in Pisces in the chart of the full moon. As much as Gemini and Mercury leans on the analytical and rational, Neptune is a reminder to listen to our intuition, too. And sometimes the most important information or feedback we can receive is from our “gut”.
