Welcome to the Scorpio New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when our focus turns towards the impermanence of life. As a water sign, Scorpio marks transitions, whether emotional transitions or the act of leaving one stage for another. And in this space we find the courage to trust and be vulnerable. The Scorpio New Moon is exact on November 1, 2024 at 8:47 am EDT. That’s 5:47 am Los Angeles, 12:47 pm London, 2:47 pm Johannesburg, 6:17 pm New Deli, 11:47 pm Sydney, and 1:47 am Auckland on November 3.
New moons are new beginnings. They turn the page. They give us an opportunity for renewal. Each lunar month, a different zodiac sign acts as a new lens. And through Scorpio, we step onto a stage that takes us through the hidden and occult, through life’s deepest emotions, especially those shared with others. Scorpio is also one of the signs of matter and speaks to themes around money, power, and finance.
If a new moon is a new beginning, we have an opportunity to set our intentions for change as well as new opportunities. It may be a month where transitions are on our mind. Perhaps we’re looking at money and assets, planning for our financial future and beyond. Or, instead, perhaps we are delving into our psyche, exploring our hidden motives and the secrets that we keep.
For those in the northern hemisphere, if you look out the window, you may see a world in flux. The growing season is coming to an end. We are just past the harvest and preparing for darker days and colder nights ahead. (Conversely, for those in the southern hemisphere, it is an awakening of the natural world after the slumber of winter.)
Scorpio is a power sign. It can cross the divide between life and death and resurrect. It’s an energy that we can call upon, when needed. And with Mars in Cancer in an exact opposition to Pluto in Capricorn at the time of the new moon, there may be something in our lives that needs resurrection that we can set the intention. Mars is the ruler of Scorpio, pulling the energy of the new moon towards the sign of Cancer — home, family, roots, past, memory, safety, care. (See Mars in Cancer: Sign by Sign for more information.)
Mars and Pluto are, admittedly, a confrontational energy that accompanies us into November. It’s an aspect that can demand reformation. It can also move mountains and do the impossible, calling upon inexhaustible resources of energy. (Professional athletes often have strong Mars-Pluto aspects.) As an evolutionary planet, Pluto ultimately demands evolution and this may be a key theme over the next four weeks.
