The Moon crosses between Scorpio and Sagittarius, between a space where we had to reflect on what’s valuable and important to a need to try to make sense of things and arrive at the best conclusions. After the heaviness of the past few days, it’s a push to get moving.
I’ve been thinking a lot on Scorpio’s energies the last week. First, because my use of the word “decay” alongside Mars in Scorpio created some friction. Second, because the October 28 lunar eclipse, while not in Scorpio, is the last in a series that brought us from 2021 to the present moment. (There was a lunar eclipse in Taurus, Scorpio’s opposing sign, on November 19, 2021, and we would have felt this eclipse series start to come in as early as August 2021.)
For me, as a Scorpio — and some of you already know this — I’ve had a lot of deaths in my life over the last two years. I lost my mother in 2021 to cancer and I also lost four other family members — two maternal aunts and two maternal first cousins. Plus, two other people died in my life followed by my father’s illness and the end of a relationship. As you can imagine, it’s been a lot.
Of course, I’m human, and I feel these losses, but I also know that it has been the season for me. Further, loss and vulnerability break us open, which is one of the most beautiful things we can take from Scorpio in order to create new life.
That said, death … decay … these words go hand in hand; they are part of the Scorpio archetype. We’ve all experienced transitions the past couple of years. But we need this transition of life to bring us to renewal of life and the bloom of Taurus Season. This is why we typically mark this part of the year with celebrations and festivals that honor the dead.
And so I was thinking, even though this has been my personal season to navigate the energies of endings and decay, that I can start to put myself in the hopefulness of new life to come.
