Uranus turns direct on the heels of yesterday’s powerful full moon. As the planet of consciousness and awakening, something is illuminated. We see things for what they really are.
Uranus isn’t like other planets. Instead it belongs to a class of planets that are evolutionary in nature. Its job is to get us to grow and evolve by any means possible. And Uranus does its work by turning on a powerful light, by shaking awake, by shocking and upending.
Here are a couple of important albeit technical points to note.
One, today’s Uranus Direct is part of a larger story of change, transformation, and awakening that began in May 2018, March 2019 when Uranus first entered the sign of Taurus.
The previous retrograde and direct stations on or around August 7, 2018; January 6, 2019; August 11, 2019; January 10, 2020; August 15, 2020; January 14, 2021; and August 19, 2021 speak to points of challenge. The new or full moons of April-May and October-November during these periods may have been important, too.
That said, Uranus hints that a certain part of our lives may now look very different than it did in 2018-2019 — seismically different. Certainly that shift needs to continue and will continue into 2025-2026 when Uranus leaves Taurus. (Not sure what part of your life is getting activated? To get a sign-by-sign look, read my Uranus in Taurus guide.)
Two, Uranus turns direct at 10 Taurus, right in a square to Saturn in Aquarius. So we’re getting an activation of Saturn square Uranus, an aspect that dominated the astrology in 2021 and one that felt like two corners of our lives were pushing and pulling in different directions.
What does this all mean? January may be a pivotal month for many, especially the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, a month that builds on a bigger story. Pay attention to what’s unfolding. And if you feel stuck, how is this month a time of breakthrough. First, though, we have to get out of our own way.
In addition to Uranus Direct, the Lunar Nodes shift signs, arriving in Taurus-Scorpio today for an 18-month stay. The Lunar Nodes are like a personal and collective compass. Where is true north? The North Node now in Taurus is a reminder that, over the coming months, we need to find solid ground.
Yes, the North Node is now in the same sign as Uranus. So solid ground may be someplace very different than before.
I spoke all about Uranus Direct and the Nodes in my weekly video for the astrology of January 17-23, 2022. You can watch the replay here or on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or listen on Spotify.
Lastly, I’m doing an online talk for the Big Apple Astrology meetup group on the change in the Lunar Nodes next Tuesday, January 25 at 7 pm EST. In this presentation, I’ll be discussing the larger points around the Nodes in Taurus and Scorpio. It’s a live talk; no replay available. The talk is also free, but donations are suggested by the hosts. You can learn more and register here.
