What a year it’s been. Amirite?! I know it’s hard to believe there might be a bright spot amidst all this dark personal transformation, but indeed there is. Jupiter, the planet of faith, miracles, growth, and adventure will change signs from Cancer to Leo on July 16, 2014. Why is this a big deal? Let’s take a look.

Truth be told, Jupiter has been quite at home in Cancer, where it has spent the last year. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, which is to say that it has a sort of VIP status in the sign. If Jupiter is growth, then we’ve had many opportunities to grow through family, home, and emotional connections since last June. (I probably spent more time with my family in the last twelve months than I have in the last twelve years.) Other Jupiter in Cancer themes have been home improvement, nesting, emotional abundance, security, motherhood, nostalgia, and home cooked meals. It was a sweet and tender placement for Jupiter, but the planet also got tangled up with Uranus, Pluto, and Mars to form a cardinal grand cross. Ouch.

But switching signs from Cancer, Jupiter will now pour its abundance into regal Leo, a sign also known for creativity, romance, play, celebration, and childlike joy! Think the Sun card in the Tarot. Think courage, pride, and a generosity of spirit. Think arts drama, and star power. Think luxury and a first class ticket to see the world. Now are you excited? Let’s pop a bottle of bubbly and toast a good time. If you needed a soundtrack for Jupiter in Leo, look no further than Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” which was released in November 1978 when Jupiter was in party loving Leo.

Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world it’s turning inside out Yeah!
I’m floating around in ecstasy
So don’t stop me now don’t stop me
‘Cause I’m having a good time having a good time

Jupiter in Leo will also mean different things for different people. (I have the placement natally and my rising sign is Sagittarius, so this will be a homecoming and, fingers crossed, I’m hoping for twelve months of fabulous hair.) Know your Sun and rising sign? Check out where Jupiter will bring growth and a dash of luck to over the next twelve months:

Aquarius or Aquarius Rising — Relationships, commitment, marriage, business partnerships, meeting someone larger than life.

Pisces or Pisces Rising — Health, wellness, nutrition, purity, getting healthy, exercise, service, practice, day-to-day rituals, routine, work.

Despite Jupiter’s rosy, Santa Claus reputation, we have to be aware of shadow Jupiter and in Leo it’s the diva, the narcissist, the self righteous, the person who gambles it all on misguided faith. Be careful about taking excessive risks, especially since Jupiter will be square Saturn in 2015, revealing that faith and reality will often be at odds. As the planet of freedom, Jupiter will also give us the push to leave a situation that has outlived its usefulness, whether a marriage or a job.

Enjoy!
