What a year it’s been. Amirite?! I know it’s hard to believe there might be a bright spot amidst all this dark personal transformation, but indeed there is. Jupiter, the planet of faith, miracles, growth, and adventure will change signs from Cancer to Leo on July 16, 2014. Why is this a big deal? Let’s take a look.
Truth be told, Jupiter has been quite at home in Cancer, where it has spent the last year. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, which is to say that it has a sort of VIP status in the sign. If Jupiter is growth, then we’ve had many opportunities to grow through family, home, and emotional connections since last June. (I probably spent more time with my family in the last twelve months than I have in the last twelve years.) Other Jupiter in Cancer themes have been home improvement, nesting, emotional abundance, security, motherhood, nostalgia, and home cooked meals. It was a sweet and tender placement for Jupiter, but the planet also got tangled up with Uranus, Pluto, and Mars to form a cardinal grand cross. Ouch.
But switching signs from Cancer, Jupiter will now pour its abundance into regal Leo, a sign also known for creativity, romance, play, celebration, and childlike joy! Think the Sun card in the Tarot. Think courage, pride, and a generosity of spirit. Think arts drama, and star power. Think luxury and a first class ticket to see the world. Now are you excited? Let’s pop a bottle of bubbly and toast a good time. If you needed a soundtrack for Jupiter in Leo, look no further than Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” which was released in November 1978 when Jupiter was in party loving Leo.
Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world it’s turning inside out Yeah!
I’m floating around in ecstasy
So don’t stop me now don’t stop me
‘Cause I’m having a good time having a good time
Jupiter in Leo will also mean different things for different people. (I have the placement natally and my rising sign is Sagittarius, so this will be a homecoming and, fingers crossed, I’m hoping for twelve months of fabulous hair.) Know your Sun and rising sign? Check out where Jupiter will bring growth and a dash of luck to over the next twelve months:

Pisces or Pisces Rising — Health, wellness, nutrition, purity, getting healthy, exercise, service, practice, day-to-day rituals, routine, work.
Despite Jupiter’s rosy, Santa Claus reputation, we have to be aware of shadow Jupiter and in Leo it’s the diva, the narcissist, the self righteous, the person who gambles it all on misguided faith. Be careful about taking excessive risks, especially since Jupiter will be square Saturn in 2015, revealing that faith and reality will often be at odds. As the planet of freedom, Jupiter will also give us the push to leave a situation that has outlived its usefulness, whether a marriage or a job.
Enjoy!
So even though this is a sign change for Jupiter it’s not a house change for me. It’s been in my 6th house (squared first my natal Jupiter, then Chiron -both 2nd house) and was then conjunct my natal Saturn. Moving away from that now and I’m wondering if I should notice new energy related to business? Am at a financial point of destruction (probably Mars theough the 8th is mostly to blame, sitting on natal Pluto for months, but there’s always the possibility things can turn around) and wondering if Jupiter could be what shifts it.
Rosie, I use both Placidus and whole sign. Play with both. A sign change is a powerful indicator of a shift in narrative regardless of house system. Keep an eye on the 10/23/2014 solar eclipse at 0 Scorpio, another powerful cusp and another shift in narrative. But if you have planets 11-16 cardinal, things are cooking into next year.
It’s interesting…since about Father’s Day, when Jupiter hit 23 degrees of Cancer, I’ve been dealing with home and family issues that I thought I had buried and left behind–abuse by my dad (emotional) and stepfathers (physical and emotional). Been feeling super broken, and having the most unexpected triggers in the most unexpected places. It’s put a lot of sudden (and I’m praying, transient) strain in my marriage, because one of those triggers was something that my partner said (to someone else, in jest) 3 or 4 days ago, and I just exploded…and then last night, a different trigger surfaced from my partner, and the anguish was intense and I really thought that it might be the beginning of the end for us. I guess I’ve come further than I realized, because despite my fear and pain, I didn’t swallow those hurts…I spoke my truth. But Jupiter’s move out of Cancer couldn’t come soon enough!
Jupiter was also square the nodes at about 25 Cancer, so there was a lot of karmic stuff coming up. So sorry to hear about everything you’ve suddenly been through. Hoping that Jupiter in Leo is much sunnier!
You and me both! I’m putting my shades on, making my hair fabulous, and walking out smiling and waving…it’s a Freddie Mercury thing–“Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking, but my smile still stays on.”
Well, we’ll see once my original birth certificate arrives (and hopefully has the exact time on it, thank you Ohio for finally opening those records!) whether I’m Libra or Virgo Rising.
Given that I’ve maintained I’m Cancer, Virgo Rising, once Jupiter moves into Leo, it will bring growth and a dash of luck to money, my paycheck, what I value, spending, resources, material abundance, luxury. And THAT will be MOST WELCOME! (Except the growth in spending. That can grow to be LESS, thank you very much.)
I suspect I am Virgo Rising and not Libra, given the increase already in my interests in all of the mystical Virgo themes.
And let’s just not talk about karmic issues anymore. I think I’ve had enough for several years. (Still singed and smoldering.)
Cancer sun 6 degrees in the 7th house, Capricorn rising , Pluto in libra at 16 degrees 10th house. To say I have been smashed relentlessly over the past few years would be modest. My natal Jupiter is 10 degrees Leo in the 8th house. My astrology knowledge although broadening is still amateurish and not sure what to make of my Jupiter in Leo aspect considering its in the dark lords 8th house domain (which also rules my Cap/rising sign) I lost my head back there somewhere in 2014 lol, actually when Jupiter went retrograde in July to be precise!! Has been challenging to the max ever since. I need a break, can’t stay on this roller coaster much longer can anyone offer any insight on my Jupiter? Im just praying that when it goes direct maybe I can breathe again, but if not then forewarned is forearmed
What will be the effect if jupiter in the 4th (natal chart )house ( aries ) for capricorn ascendant ? When jupiter will be in the leo.
