Happy New Year! Welcome to Capricorn Season, the time in the zodiac when we feel the passage of time and the weight of responsibility and growing older. It’s no coincidence that we set our resolutions to be our best selves during Capricorn Season. And with Saturn also in Capricorn, we enter a month where it’s an imperative to be our best self.

We kick off January with Mars in Aries, which is a return home for the planet of action and motivation. If Capricorn helps us set goals as well as a higher bar for our lives, then Mars will give us the fuel to move forward. But Mars will be making a series of hard aspects to Saturn and Pluto, so the pressure is really on us this month.

Speaking of pressure, a Capricorn New Moon solar eclipse on January 5, is a bit of a reckoning. Activating both Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, we have a lot to answer for. Are we doing the best we can do in our lives? Are we taking our responsibilities seriously? Are we doing the right thing? Capricorn is a sobering sign. It cuts through illusions and spells things out in reality. But we can use this powerful energy to set major goals for our lives and use the energy of Mars in Aries to take action. In fact, this eclipse is the first in a series that will take us the middle of 2020, so this is only the beginning the story.

And this is a story that may have an unexpected twist. Just a day after the solar eclipse, Uranus stations direct in Aries. When Uranus changes direct, it tends to shake things up and Uranus in Aries is all about shake ups in power. So we may be seeing changes in leadership in January as well. This is also the last stretch of a story that’s been unfolding since 2011. (Read more about Uranus in Aries in my sign by sign guide.)

On January 21, a full moon lunar eclipse in Leo puts the spotlight on creativity, self expression, and identity. Leo is a sign that wants us to shine, to be ourselves. Make sure you’re honoring your talents as well as what makes you you. But a square off to Uranus make bring unexpected events as well as powerful downloads and insights.

Lastly, Venus moves into Sagittarius on January 7, meeting up with Jupiter. We’re feeling like we want to run away from life, especially as things get a little heavy with Capricorn Season. While we can’t run away from life, we can enjoy exotic journeys abroad and trips to far away lands. Venus in Sagittarius loves to travel. It has a bohemian spirit and enjoys books and long, wandering conversations.

Read for your Sun and rising sign.

Aries

March 21–April 19

Aries Glyph

It’s go time, Aries. It’s a new year, a new you, and Mars, your ruling planet, is back in Aries after two years. (Yes, it takes Mars two years to travel through all twelve signs, which means that your life has these two year cycles. And every two years you return home to yourself.) With Mars in Aries until the middle of February, you’re getting a fresh start. You may feel energized, motivated as a result. You may even be a little more bossy and aggressive than usual as Mars typically goes after what it wants. That said, Mars returns to home to find things very different than things were in the start of 2017. In particular, Mars is running up against Saturn in Capricorn. See, Capricorn is your career sign. It speaks to direction, responsibility, and the ambition to make something of yourself in the world. Saturn has been putting a lot of pressure on your life for the last year, pushing you to get your life together (if it wasn’t already) and step into new responsibilities, new ambitions, and new achievements. In short, Saturn is getting you to be very clear about the role you want to play in the world. So here comes Mars. You’re ready to push forward, but it has to abide by Saturn and its need for satisfying bigger goals. You can’t cut corners. You can move without a plan. And you need to show you’re taking responsibility seriously. Oh, did I mention that it’s Capricorn Season, too, the time in your personal calendar when you get serious about the future, set goals, and reach towards personal and professional milestones? A conjunction of the Sun and Saturn on January 2 is a day for you to sit down and assess where your life is going and what you want to change. I know, heavy stuff, but that’s Saturn’s stock and trade. This isn’t just your average New Year’s resolutions, think bigger in scope and higher in reach. Where do you want to be in the next five years? Ten years? A new moon solar eclipse on January 5 really drives this point home. New moons are personal resets, a time to start fresh in a certain area of your life. But a solar eclipse? Doors are opening and closing. The great wheel of fate is turning. Over the next six months you may see a major change in your career or direction. You may see a change in status or title. (This includes becoming a parent for the first time.) Life may demand more from you — more seriousness, more responsibility, more effort. Knowing that Mars is in Aries all month long, be ready to take action. If an opportunity presents itself, move forward with determination, planning, and precision. If you’ve been wanting to make a major change in your professional life, seize the moment. We’ve been talking about Mars and Saturn, but we can’t forget Uranus in Aries. It gets out of retrograde on January 6, just after the solar eclipse, and infusing the surrounding days with and element of awakening and unpredictability. Note that, apart from May 2018 to November 2018, Uranus has been in Aries for the last seven years. You’ve had to completely reinvent yourself, make drastic changes, and break out of whatever was not you. This is Uranus’s last hurrah in Aries before leaving for good in March. So this month may bring a bit of a “what did you learn?” as well as the potential for profound realizations and — hopefully — a joining up of the dots. On January 21 there’s a lunar eclipse full moon, the same day that Mars and Saturn square off. This is a day for you to get very clear about who you are and to also be very serious about the role you have to play in the world. Be true to yourself but don’t forget that life is bigger than you and requires commitment and responsibility. This is a turning point month for you, one that has you moving right out of the gate in the New Year. 2019 is a year that is going to push you forward, but also help you get back to what really matters. Taurus

April 20–May 20

Taurus Glyph

After many many months, Venus, your ruling planet, finally gets out of Scorpio. It’s been since, what, September? Minus, of course, a retrograde dip elsewhere, but the point is that you’ve been living life primarily through the lens of relationships over the past four months, which means that you’ve had to compromise and cater to other people’s needs, negotiating power dynamics and strong feelings. What did you learn about yourself and others? Are your relationships stronger? Did you learn to be vulnerable? More emotionally available? Come January 7, Venus arrives in Sagittarius, the sign of faith and optimism, and a sign that takes you deeper into yourself and into the dark recesses of your psyche. With Jupiter also in Sagittarius until the end of 2019, this is an area that’s getting a lot of growth and awareness, which is to say that this is a beneficial time in your life to prioritize your emotional healing. By doing so, you will reap the rewards. This could be through traditional therapy or doing the work yourself to open your consciousness to yourself and your shadow. You’re in a larger time in your life where it’s about developing a strong sense of faith and belief and wisdom. With Saturn in Capricorn until the end of 2020, you must define what you believe in, build an internal compass, or even go back to school. This Capricorn Season is a check in on your progress, especially with a line up of the Sun and Saturn on January 2 followed by a powerful solar eclipse on January 5. Do you have faith? What is your truth? Do you have the wisdom that you need? Have you gotten out there in the world and really learned from different cultures and experiences? Have you prioritized your education? Keep these questions in mind as you go through Capricorn Season. Revisit them throughout 2019 because you’ll need to answer them. Speaking of 2019, this is your friendly monthly reminder that a lot of things are changing. Perhaps they already are. Perhaps you can sense things on the horizon. All because Uranus is going to be spending the next seven years in Taurus. But first, Uranus has its last hurrah in Aries, turning direct on January 6. (Pay attention to your dreams or flashes of insight around that day.) You have until March 7, which is when Uranus gets back in Taurus, commencing a multi-year journey of you reinventing yourself and reinventing your life. The lunar eclipse on January 21 gives you a preview or a check in with this process of change. Falling in your chart’s sector of home, family, and roots, you may have a decision to make about where you’re going to live or symbolically plant yourself. You may need to make emotional connection and self care a priority. You may also need to make a change in your home or see a change with your family. By then it’s Aquarius Season, the sign that forms the highest reaches of your chart. As you go into February, career and professional life are highlighted. So know that later this month is about making sure you’re tending to your ambitions and responsibilities. Although there’s a lot going on this month, you may find that you need to retreat, get quiet, and tend to your spiritual self this month. And if you’re feeling tired, don’t forget to rest. Gemini

May 21–June 20

Gemini Glyph

What a year 2018 was, Gemini. If there was an overarching theme it was that of an emotional reckoning, an emotional purge. Maybe that’s a bit strongly worded, but Saturn is going through what’s called your 8th sign right now. And that’s telling you that from the start of 2018 to the end of 2020 you’re facing the deepest most vulnerable parts of yourself — the parts you’ve hidden away, projected onto others, or haven’t wanted to deal with. You’ve also had to face your fears. Any of this ringing a bell? The point of this time in your life is that there’s comes a time when we have to do the emotional work. One of the healthiest ways you can work with Saturn going through your 8th sign is to work with a therapist or a counselor, because you need a guide right now. (Maybe you’ve already been doing this already or do this in other healing modalities.) But if you’re going into 2019 not quite sure which way is up and what to grab onto, then this is your reality check. I say this because of two things. One, it’s Capricorn Season and Capricorn is your 8th sign. Every year the Sun travels through Capricorn and shines its light on the deepest parts of yourself, the very fears and vulnerabilities that have been bubbling up since the start of last year. (Astrology is a clock, by the way, and the planets are the different hands all moving at different rates. I digress.) While the Sun only spends four weeks in this part of your chart every year, Saturn only spends three years in this part of your chart every 29 years. (I know, wow.) So this is why this is such a crucial time in your life. The Sun in Capricorn means you’re getting a check in on your progress, like a midterm test or a parent making sure you’re doing your homework. January 2 is the day that the Sun and Saturn meet up. Make sure you’re taking this emotional work seriously. The second thing I want to mention in relation to this is that on January 5, a few days later, there’s a solar eclipse in Capricorn and eclipses kick things into gear. They make it an imperative. My advice is to work proactively with this energy. Work with a therapist. Do the transformation work. Go on a retreat where someone can guide you through the deepest parts of yourself. On a side note, Saturn in this part of your chart can speak to money and finance and having to face fears around financial stability. Saturn wants you to set a budget, sit down with a financial planner, and work towards creating financial security in the future. In other news, Mars is in your sign of friendships and community all month long. This is a time to be social, to get out with friends, to connect with your community. Although Mars can be a little undiplomatic, so be aware that this may bring up tensions with a friend or some you’re affiliated with on a group level. Lastly, because this is a big month for everyone (it’s eclipse season), the lunar eclipse on January 21 lights up your sign of communication, travel, education. This has been an area that’s been a priority over the last year and a half, which is to say that you’ve had to open up your voice through writing, speaking, or even singing. You’ve also had to share your ideas. You’ve had to move and travel. You’ve had to take classes. The eclipse brings closure to a story that’s been unfolding since February 2017. The lunar eclipse may also force a major decision, one that aligns you with a very different future. Cancer

June 21–July 22

Cancer Glyph

It’s a big year ahead, Cancer. Can you feel it? As you step into January, you also step into eclipse season. Think back to July 2018. That was the month that there was a solar eclipse in Cancer, which kicked off a very different chapter in your life, one where new events and new people came in, where relationship became a major focus. Doesn’t matter if you’re single, in a casual relationship, or married. This is a time when you have to do the hard work around connection. All relationships require us to step out of ourselves and into the needs of others, to compromise and find balance. With Saturn in your relationship sign of Cancer until the end of 2020, this is an area that’s getting a lot of serious attention. With the Sun and Saturn meet up in Capricorn on January 2, it’s a milestone in this process of learning and negotiation. What’s working in your relationships? What’s not? Are you committed? How can you be a better partner? You have a decision to make regardless. The solar eclipse in Capricorn on January 5 makes it an imperative. Let’s flesh out a couple of different scenarios around this eclipse. If you’re single and want to change that, how will you step out of your shell and make connection? If you’re dating someone, is this person someone you want to make a commitment, whether it’s moving in together or getting married? If you’re married or in a serious relationship, is it working? Do you need to put in serious work to find connection and equity again? Or do you need to make a decision to end the marriage? The common theme in all of these scenarios is that this is a time that’s not necessarily about you. Another major area of focus this month is career. Think back to 2011. (I know, we’re going in the wayback machine here. Astrology is about understanding different cycles of time and the stories that unfold during those cycles.) It’s likely that there’s something very different about you career or even the direction your life is headed in. I mention this because on January 6, Uranus will turn direct in Aries, your career sign. What this means is that this is one last push to open up to what you really came here to do in life as well as the role you need to play in the world. (Yes, if you’re doing the math it’s been seven years of this.) With Mars in Aries all month long, this is time in your personal calendar when career and direction are getting a kick of motivation. Are you thinking of making a change in your professional life? Are you working hard to push out in the world? Do you want to be a leader? Take January by the horns and be proactive. Then on January 21 a lunar eclipse will put a spotlight on money, income, and material stability. This is an area that’s been getting some attention since 2017 and this eclipse marks the end of this story. Make sure you’re working to bring in more money or focus on what you really value. Eclipses close doors and open new doors. Be ready to move. Want to learn more about how the astrology of January will affect you? Book your consultation now.

Leo

July 23–August 22

Leo Glyph

Last year was likely pivotal, a year that pushed you in new directions and opened you up to the possibility of radical change. Even when you look back further, the eclipses of 2017-2018 in Leo and Aquarius ushered in personal changes as well as changes in your relationships. So you’ve already been through shifts in your life and the milestones that come with them. (New relationships, the end relationships, people coming in and out of your life.) But as you go into 2019, the story is changing yet again and it’s safe to say that you’re on the verge of a new life. Now it’s career and your professional life that’s that’s the major focus. I’ve spoken about this in previous horoscopes, but know that you’re entering a seven year chapter of reinventing the direction of your life in and reinventing your career. It’s about getting closer to what you really want to do in the world versus what others expect of you. It’s a time of breakouts and breakthroughs, ups and downs and second acts. Good thing January is Capricorn Season, a sign that helps you plan and organize. What do you want to change in 2019? What would a new direction or a new career look like? Make a list. Set goals and work out your resolutions. It’s also the time astrologically when you want to focus on your health and how you take care of your body. As much as your New Year’s resolutions are about outlining loftier ambitions, it’s also about setting healthy goals — cleaning up your diet, going to the gym, quitting the things that need quitting. You may even be feeling the pressure as you step into January. A line up of the Sun and Saturn on January 2 is a big check in on how you’ve been taking care of your life, managing your physical health, and honoring your responsibilities. A couple of days later, on January 5, a solar eclipse will kick off six months of hustle. It’s important to work proactively with this eclipse energies and its activations of Saturn and Pluto, two planets that don’t care for procrastination and laziness. Again, this is the time to make positive and lasting changes in your overall health and wellness. It’s a time to get on schedule, to clean out the toxicities in your life, to be of service and to start projects. It’s a time to be the best you that you can be. While this is a look at the bigger picture influences, know that Mars is heating up your sign of truth and faith all January. Don’t be surprised if you’re feeling a little more philosophical than usual, mulling over life’s bigger questions, and searching for meaning. You may also be traveling long distances this month or motivated to book a trip abroad. Education is also a focus and it’s a month to cultivate wisdom and knowledge and know the difference between right and wrong. By January 21, you’re in the spotlight with a Leo Full Moon. This one in particular marks the end of a chapter that began in February 2017, one that invited you to refind yourself and shine your talents. So even though this story is drawing to a close, there may be a few dramatic twists. (Eclipses have a habit of swiftly closing and opening doors or sending you in a different direction.) The eclipse may also put focus on a relationship and force a decision. Mars also squares Saturn on that day, an energy that may bring up heavy or serious emotions. Are you and a partner on the same page? Or do you believe in different things or see the world differently? Are you committed to something long term or not? Lastly, despite some of this month’s heavier themes, Venus and Jupiter are inviting you to play, have fun, create, and seek out romance. So enjoy! Virgo

August 23–September 22

Virgo Glyph

Virgo, let’s set the stage a little. You’re not just stepping into a new year in January, you’re rendezvousing with a major story that has been unfolding since 2018 — you’re defining who you are. I know, identity is a bit of an abstract concept, but the years of 2018 through 2020 mark a return to self … or at least the imperative that you get back to you. As a Virgo, you have a tendency to put others first. While service is certainly an admirable trait, the other side to it is that sometimes you and your needs can get lost. So, keep this in mind as the Sun joins up with Saturn in Capricorn on January 2 followed by a solar eclipse in Capricorn on January 5, events that trigger this rediscovery of self. If you’re one to make resolutions for the New Year or write out lists, then it’s time to take stock of your talents, your creativity, what fills you with passion and motivation, what lets you shine. How will you make more time for these things in 2019? How will you make yourself, your talents, your creativity a priority? Here’s a caveat. Yes, this is a time of self, but it’s very important that you take a serious look at the negative self, the version of you that is not the real you. After all Pluto is in the mix and what Pluto does is hold a mirror to you. So, don’t be afraid to look at yourself. Mercury, your ruling planet, meets up with Saturn on January 11 and Pluto on January 18, days that may push you to be very real with yourself. Thankfully you have Mars in Aries pushing you to do the shadow work this month, which is to say, digging into the deeper parts of yourself. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable or even emotionally uncomfortable as you look at how you can sometimes self sabotage or betray yourself. (As an unrelated aside, this year may speak to having children or growing your family, if this is something that is appropriate, of course. January and the following months may touch on major milestones in this arena, such as getting pregnant or having a baby.) The Sun moves into Aquarius on January 20, highlighting health, wellness, and taking care of your body. The rest of the month is a good time to focus on setting healthy resolutions, going to the doctor, cleaning up, and getting organized. On January 21, a lunar eclipse will shine a spotlight on rest, recuperation, and endings. If you’ve been working hard on yourself this month and making the realizations about what you need to stop doing, use the full moon to let it go. You don’t need this anymore and you don’t need to bring this into 2019. Time to be your best you. Want to learn more about how the astrology of January will affect you? Book your consultation now.

Key Themes:  The self, self expression, personality, persona, identity, creativity, talent, performance, self sabotage, the shadow, shadow work, reality check, milestones, serious decisions, growing up, children, health, wellness, diet, fitness, nutrition, projects, organization, work, daily life, schedule, ritual, details of daily life, letting go, endings, retreat, reflection, recuperation, spirituality.

Libra

September 23–October 22

Libra Glyph

Libra, there’s a lot going on right now, but it’s important to put it in context with the bigger story. Meaning, we can’t forget how 2018 likely brought a lot of personal milestones and pushed you to take major steps forward in your life. Why? A couple of reasons. One, the eclipses have started to arc into a particular direction that says that you’re at a crossroads. Your life is starting to pivot in a new direction, one with new responsibilities, and new career paths. July and August 2018 may have even been a pivotal time. Two, Saturn, the planet of growing up and getting older and taking things seriously, has been in your home sign of Capricorn since the start of 2018. You’re building a new foundation for yourself, something that you will continue to do in 2019 and 2020. It’s a time for home, family, and roots. Keep this in mind as it’s Capricorn Season right now, which means you’re getting a check up on your foundation building progressed, especially with the Sun’s meet up with Saturn on January 2 and the solar eclipse on January 5. Over the coming months you may be making a serious move, one that is symbolic of this new chapter in your life. You may be building a home or building a family. But it’s also important to realize that home, family, and foundation is something that’s seen a profound transformation over the last ten years, what with Pluto also in Capricorn. With that in mind, whatever work you’re doing this month to build something for yourself, make sure you’re taking a serious look at the past. The foundation can’t be solid if you’re still holding onto heavy stuff from childhood. It can’t be solid if you’re not getting your needs met. Something has to change. The eclipse on January 5 makes it an imperative and you’ll be doing the work over the coming months. In other news, on January 7, Venus, your ruling planet, FINALLY, gets out of Scorpio. If you recall, Venus has pretty much been in Scorpio since the start of September, so it’s arrival in Sagittarius may feel like a breath of fresh air. It’s time to move, travel, explore, and get around. Venus in Sagittarius will also help you find your voice, so be ready to express yourself. Write, speak, and even sing. You may even be looking to take a long distance trip or visit another country this month. Another area of focus this month is relationships. Mars’s arrival in Aries, your relationship sign, just before the start of the New Year, heats things up. Your relationships — all your relationships, not just romantic partnerships — need your attention. How will you work to negotiate, connect, interact, and find consensus in January? In fact, relationship is an area of your life that’s seen a lot of change and reinvention of the past few years courtesy of Uranus in Aries. On January 5 Uranus will turn direct, giving you one last jolt to make necessary changes and bring new awareness to how you connect with others. Finally, a lunar eclipse on January 21 will put community and friendships in the spotlight. It will also highlight creating a vision for the future. What do you want for 2019? Who are you going to network with? What role will friendships play? On the same day as the eclipse, Mars and Saturn will square off, a heavy duty aspect that speaks to having to make a decision about a relationship or a connection. Is this person able to build a future with you? If so, great! If not, Saturn may be giving you a reality check. Remember, it’s all about foundation right now. Everything has to be rock solid because you’re building for the years to come, not just 2019. Want to learn more about how the astrology of January will affect you? Book your consultation now.

Key Themes:  Home, family, foundation, roots, the past, memories, nostalgia, ancestors, inner circle, inner world, commitment, emotional needs, parents, relationships, other people, one-on-one connection, partnership, negotiation, compromise, communication, talking, writing, speaking, thinking, ideas, learning, school, education, classes, trips, movement, journeys, foreign travel, friendships, community, social network, social circle, groups, the future, hopes, wishes.

Scorpio

October 23–November 21

Scorpio Glyph

Get ready to hustle, because Mars, your ruling planet, is in Aries all month long. If you were feeling a little spaced out in December, floating along and low energy, that’s because Mars was in Pisces, a sign that’s more about rest than action. But here you are with Mars in Aries, the sign of drive, motivation, and forward movement. This energy needs an outlet and you may find that you’re channeling it into work and projects, exercise and wellness. So don’t be surprised if you’re busy in January working hard, getting things checked off the to-do list. And since it’s the New Year, you can channel Mars into healthy initiatives like going to the gym, making positive changes to diet, and getting organized. That said, it’s Capricorn Season, a sign that helps you to communicate, think, learn. And with Saturn in Capricorn, this is an area of your life that needs more attention than usual. With the Sun meeting up with Saturn on January 2 followed by a solar eclipse in Capricorn on January 5, you’re getting a big check in on your progress. How are you using your voice? Are you being serious about what you have to say? Are you writing? Are you making education a priority? These are all questions to ponder as Saturn, like a life coach (or parent, or cop … choose your metaphor) is trying to get you to be a better version of yourself and is going to put pressure on you to take your voice, your mind, your intelligence, your ideas seriously for the next two years. Saturn is also getting you to really think about your choices right now and the solar eclipse may highlight the power and weight of choice in the coming months. Keep this in mind as Mars and Saturn square off on January 21, which may force you to take a serious look at something — your choices, your voice, your work, your health, what you value, how you make a living. That same day, adding some intensity to the mix, there’s a lunar eclipse in Leo, your career sign. If you take a step back for a moment and look at what’s been going on in your professional life since February 2017. With the eclipses in Leo, it’s been about moving ahead in your career, being seen, showing off your talents, and being in the spotlight. This lunar eclipse on January 21 marks the end of a story that’s been nearly two years in the making. Eclipses also force decisions and put things into the spotlight. As a result, the coming weeks may bring a career change, a job opportunity, or even a change in title or status. In other less dramatic news, Venus leaves Scorpio for Sagittarius on January 7, meeting up with Jupiter all month long. It’s a good month to make money and bring more financial stability to your life. You also may feel a bit spendy as Jupiter, already in your money sign of Sagittarius, likes to live large. So even as things are possibly shifting month and you’re working a lot, at least you can enjoy the pleasures of life. Venus is also your relationship sign, so be open to romance this month as well. Sagittarius

November 22–December 21

Sagittarius Glyph

Let’s zoom out. I want to put January 2019 in context with a larger story, one that has been playing out over the last eleven years. (I know, that’s a crazy long time. But astrology is about telling time and understanding how the small stories connect to the bigger stories.) Back in 2008 the planet Pluto arrived in Capricorn, your sign of money and material stability, and kicked off 16 years of you completely transforming your relationships to money and the material world. Have you seen any shifts when you look back? Changes in what you value, what you own, how you earn a living, and how you spend and manage your money? Have you had to face your fears around money and stability? I mention this because it’s Capricorn, which means that this is your yearly revisit to this story that’s been going on for the last decade. What makes this year different is that Saturn, as of 2018, is in Capricorn along with Pluto, bringing a different dimension to this story of money. Saturn in Capricorn wants you to take this part of your life seriously, if you haven’t already. It wants you to make financial plans, get back to basics, and figure out what you really need to be financially secure. Keep this in mind as the Sun meets up with Saturn on January 2 followed by a solar eclipse in Capricorn on January 5. As much as Pluto in Capricorn has been about tearing down your financial world, Saturn is about building back up better and stronger. The eclipse energy means that money, income, and material stability will be a major focus over the next six months. So it’s important to be aware of these deeper lessons as well as the big picture. That said, let’s focus on Jupiter in Sagittarius. It’s been giving you a boost of confidence and setting off new beginnings since November. But there’s been a twist. While Jupiter in Sagittarius is all fire, faith, and even confidence, it’s been making a square to Neptune in Pisces in the process, which has muted Jupiter’s time in Sagittarius. The dynamic between Sagittarius and Pisces is that of faith, wisdom, mysticism, and spirituality. This square, especially with Neptune’s ability to dissolve and confuse, has been pulling at the edges of your reality. It’s been a time of searching for truth, questioning faith, and maybe even the heaviness of an existential crisis. Make sure you’re making time for spirituality over the coming months. This means meditating, finding answers within, feeling connection with something much greater than yourself. Neptune helps us connect to the Divine Plan, which is often at odds with what our egos want. Looking ahead to the lunar eclipse on January 21, it’s putting the spotlight on foreign travel, higher education, distant lands, other cultures, and the search for wisdom and knowledge. This is an area of your life that’s been getting a lot of play for nearly two years. Have you been traveling a lot? Making education a priority? Searching for meaning in your life? Cultivating wisdom and experience in the world? Developing a sense of what you believe in? This eclipse marks the end of a journey, one that has taken you very far. With the eclipse’s square to Uranus, be open to unexpected insights and new ways of seeing things. On the same day as the eclipse, Mars and Saturn square off, a heavy duty aspect that injects a fair amount of seriousness into events and experiences. Are you valuing your talents? Are you valuing yourself? That said, Venus is in Sagittarius all month long, giving you charm, grace, and style. With Mars in your romance sign of Aries, too, enjoy the flirtatious energy. Be creative. Be yourself. Want to learn more about how the astrology of January will affect you? Book your consultation now.

Capricorn

December 22–January 19

Capricorn Glyph

Happy birthday, Capricorn! Time to celebrate another trip around the Sun. How are you feeling about going into a new year? Do you sense something is changing or shifting? Let’s set the scene a little. Since the start of 2018, you’ve had Saturn visiting Capricorn. Even though the planet of maturity and responsibility is right at home in Capricorn, it’s put some pressure on you this past year. Meaning, it’s time for you to grow up, make some serious decisions, and take the next big steps. You could argue that, as a Capricorn, you were born for this. But it doesn’t necessarily make it easier. Keep this in mind as you step into January because you are going into a year that will continue to put pressure on you. Here’s the thing. As a Capricorn, you’re the sign of manifestation, which means that you know that with pressure, time, and hard work things come together to form something real. So 2019 could very well be a year where things come together or at least begin to come together for you. The year begins with a line up of the Sun and Saturn on January 2, marking an ending as well as a beginning. It’s also a serious check in with your work and progress over the past twelve months. But it’s the solar eclipse in Capricorn on January 5 that really sets the stage for the year. If you are born on or within five days before or after, this is going to be a milestone year, one that stands out against the others. It’s possible that the coming twelve months will be very different than the previous, pushing you into a new chapter in life. That’s what eclipses do. They usher in new events, new people, new experiences. They also close doors and open others. They mark the passage of time as well as the turn of the wheel of fate. This one in particular is saying that something has to change and transform in the coming months — something about yourself as well as how you interact with others. Relationships are also an area of focus in 2019 and you may see a new partnership or connection come in. Another focus this January is home and family. With Mars in Aries, the sign that forms the root or foundation of your chart, there may be changes in your living situation this month. Mars tends to be a noisy influence, so your home may literally be loud — loud with family, friends — or busy with things around. You may be looking to move in the new year or feel motivated to make changes in the home in other ways. Mars also puts an emphasis on emotional needs and feeling safe and secure. And with Mars coming up to hard aspects to Saturn, Pluto, and the Nodes all month long, you may have a major decision to make about where such basic things as home and family. In fact, home and family has been an area of a lot of change over the last seven, eight years because the planet Uranus has been in this part of your chart. It’s possible that you moved very far away over the past years or made an emotional or symbolic break with the past or there’s been changes in your family. Note that Uranus will turn direct on January 6, its last move in this part of your chart for a very very long time. As a result, it’s important for you to take consciousness of what home, family, and emotional connection mean to you and how you’ve grown and evolved over the past seven, eight years. Then on January 21 a lunar eclipse (did I mention it’s eclipse season this January?) lights up your sign of intimacy, vulnerability, and powerful emotions. This eclipse may force you to confront the deepest parts of yourself — your fears, your shadow, anything you keep hidden. You may have to make a break from the past in order to transform into something new. The eclipse also puts a spotlight on money and may bring resolution with a financial matter. In all, it’s a banner month, one that sets the stage for the changes and new experiences you will be having in 2019. PS, and this is a little random, but make sure you tend to your teeth and bones this year. Saturn rules teeth and bones so, whether it’s making a dentist appointment or making sure you’re getting enough calcium and minerals, it’s a part of your body that needs your attention with Saturn in Capricorn this year. Aquarius

January 20–February 18

Aquarius Glyph

What does it all mean? This is a bit of an existential month for you, Aquarius. And while Capricorn Season is your yearly time to retreat from the world to reflect, rest, and shed baggage, this one comes with some heavy hitting aspects. First up is a line up of the Sun and Saturn in Capricorn on January 2, your check in with a story that’s been unfolding over the last twelve months. I’ve spoken about this in other horoscopes, but it’s important for you to be aware that you’re in a much larger period of time — until the end of 2020 to be exact — where it’s about letting go, retreating, finding answers to life’s deeper questions, and reconnecting with spirituality. If you’ve been feeling a little bit disconnected or lost, like the world around you is falling away, how will you make time for the sacred in January? How will you find peace with the fact that you’re in a period of your life where things are supposed to be falling away? Use the energy of the solar eclipse on January 5 to really take stock of the things that need to go — addictions, old habits, old beliefs. If you’ve been feeling burnt out, make time for rest. Nourish the quiet and the still. Pay attention to your dreams. It’s not about what you want right now, but being in the surrender and flow of something greater. This month is also about finding your voice. In fact, with Uranus turning direct in Aries on January 6, know that this is an area of your life that’s needed to transform over the last seven, eight years. When you look back, can you see how you communicate differently? Think differently? Uranus’s change of direction is a last hurrah in this story and you may find that, all month long, you need to speak up more and really own the power of your voice. (Just be careful that it’s not coming from a place of anger and lashing out. Mars will also be in Aries all month long, too.) Speaking of Mars, it will make a series of aspects to Saturn and Pluto this month and you may be feeling strong or heavy push to make a serious decision about your career and the direction your life is going to take this year. Then on January 21 a lunar eclipse lights up your relationship sign of Leo, bringing to a close a nearly two year chapter where relationship with highlighted astrologically. Maybe that’s an area that’s seen major change in 2017-2018. Nevertheless the purpose of this time was for you to open up to other people, bringing in more connection, whether it was a new romantic partnership, a serious committed relationship, or having more people in your life. The lunar eclipse puts this area in the spotlight once again. People may be coming in or out of your life this month as a result. You may see some twists and turns in January, what with Uranus making a hard aspect to the eclipse. Speaking of other people, at least you have Venus and Jupiter working for you this month. As a result, you may see new opportunities to make new friends, grow your social circle, or spend more time in your community. If you’re feeling like things are heavy in January, make sure you reach out to a friend or ally. You are not alone. Pisces

February 19–March 20

Pisces Glyph

It’s a new year, Pisces, one that has you reaching for success and achievement in 2019, or at least that’s the idea. With Jupiter, your ruling planet, high up in Sagittarius in your chart, you’re in a year long chapter of time where it’s about focusing on goals, taking on more responsibility, and stepping out into the world. 2019 could bring career growth, a change in job, or new opportunities in the world, so don’t miss your chance. But there’s a catch. (Isn’t there always?) All year long, Jupiter will be making a series of squares to Neptune. When Neptune is caught up in the mix, it’s not about what you want, but negotiating the needs of heaven versus your own. Neptune helps connect you to the spiritual and non manifested world. It teaches you about higher callings and altruism. So how will you marry these two forces in 2019, which is to say, whatever you are doing in the world, how will that satisfy a higher calling? Something to ponder. I say this because Neptune can sometimes erode at our efforts, especially when they’re not in alignment with our soul. It can also pull at the edges of our reality, reminding us that we’re not just on this earth for our own needs and ambitions, but to fulfill something greater. Then again, you’re a Pisces. That’s something that runs through the very essence of who you are. Speaking of something greater than the self, Capricorn Season is a time in your personal calendar when you reach out to friends and community. In fact, this is an area of your life that’s been needing attention over the past year. With Saturn also in Capricorn, you need to be very choosy and intentional about the people you call friends. Your connections need to be rock solid, supportive, balanced. So it’s possible that you saw friendships leave your life in 2018. Who’s remaining? If you’re feeling a little alone as you step into the New Year, know that it’s important for you to rebuild community and connection in 2019. A solar eclipse on January 5 in Capricorn gives you your marching orders so to speak. If there are things in the past — experiences, beliefs — that have prevented you from feeling connected, Saturn is making it an imperative that you work to release this otherwise 2019 may feel a little lonely as a result. So, as you write out your New Year’s resolutions, put on your list that you’re going to join a group or a social cause or that you’re going to commit to reaching out to the people that matter the most. Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, a lunar eclipse on January 21 puts the spotlight on health and wellness, giving you natural push to make positive changes in this area. Use the energy of the eclipse to choose to take care of your body and overall wellness in the New Year, quit bad habits, and end addictions. It’s a good time to revisit diet, nutrition, and fitness, too. Lastly, Mars is in your money sign all month long. As a result, you’re being motivated to make more money, take action with your finances, and bring in more material stability. That said, with Jupiter and Venus opening doors in your career, make sure you’re staring 2019 on the right foot financially.
