Let’s zoom out a little bit. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been talking about something called a “mutable cross.” If this is a new term for you, it means that planets are gathered in the four mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces — to form a large square, or cross, in the sky. Having a hard time picturing what I mean? Just look at the chart for the new moon back on June 4. See that large red square? That’s a cross aka a Grand Square.

What does this all mean? Crosses create this vortex of change. It can be the shock of something new — we saw this in the Cardinal Grand Cross of 2014 — or it can be the slow erosion of the old.

Mutable signs come just before the start of a new season. Gemini, the first mutable sign, ushers in summer here in the northern hemisphere. So, mutable signs are about the world shifting around us, preparing us for a new season. There’s movement, although we may not know where we’re headed yet.

Which brings me to this mutable cross we’ve been in the middle of.

The planets involved are Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune. The other leg of the square has been filled in by the Sun, Venus, and Mercury at various points this June. The ground beneath us is shifting. We’re being presented with new choices or a demand that we start making new choices.

Tomorrow, Saturn and Neptune will make an exact square, the second of three contacts. (November 26, 2015; June 17, 2016; September 10, 2016.) Saturn is matter, the physical world, structure, achievement, long range growth. It’s a very real world planet. Neptune, on the other hand, is spirit, the non-physical world, mysticism, divine needs over our mundane needs.

Saturn and Neptune in hard aspect to each other is like trying to build something in the middle of the ocean. How does that saying go? When we make plans, god laughs?

There’s something happening right now. We’re too in it to see. The tectonic plates of our lives are shifting, but right now we’re only noticing the flood water rising or the structures in our lives eroding. Maybe we feel melancholy or confused. Saturn square Neptune says we can’t fight the forces.

What are you fighting? Where do you think you know better than God/Creator/Goddess/The Universe? Where do we need to surrender? What in our lives do we need to make sure is in alignment with the will or needs of the divine?

Apologies for the super astrology nerd post. Sometimes we gotta get technical.
