It’s official. Mercury is now retrograde. Switching gears in Capricorn, the sign of manifestation and mastery, we’re going to spend the next three weeks looking at our choices and how they manifest in our lives.

Whenever something is happening in the sign of Capricorn, there’s likely an old story. Ruled by the planet Saturn, it’s a sign that deals with big arcs of time, especially when punctuated by life’s serious moments and milestones. It’s a sign that demands maturity, too. So if Mercury is a planet that teaches us about choice, it’s in Capricorn that we see how our choices manifest … and mature through our choices so we can gain mastery over them. Mercury will turn direct on January 8, 2017 at 28 degrees Sagittarius.

The other big news is that Mars is now in Pisces after stirring things up in airy, intellectual Aquarius. But in Pisces warrior Mars meets its match. It learns that some battles can’t be won. Pisces is rest, retreat, surrender, compassion, forgiveness. Mars can fight all it wants in Pisces, but ultimately it has to connect to something much bigger — divine will.

Mars works best in Pisces when it becomes the spiritual warrior — not driven by ego or fanaticism, but by stillness, interior work, and a deep sense of how its actions affect the collective. Mars in Pisces sacrifices itself for the good of humanity, using unconditional love to restore the balance between heaven and earth, light and dark, spirit and matter. It uses dreams, meditation, and prayer to move forward.

Careful of Mars in Pisces’s shadow — listlessness, inaction, unconsciousness, and anything that anesthetizes our will, from alcohol to substances.
