Welcome to the Virgo New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when our attention turns to the real world. As an earth sign, Virgo teaches us the importance of putting things in order, having an attention to detail, and making sure our lives flow. The new moon is exact on September 14, 2023 at 9:40 pm ET, 21 degrees Virgo. That’s 6:40 pm Los Angeles, 2:40 am London (on September 15), 3:40 am Johannesburg, 11:40 am Sydney, 1:40 pm Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. They turn the page. They create a new container for our reality. Over the coming four weeks we live life through the lens of the sign and the aspects that the planets make, like a story that unfolds.
And what is Virgo? It’s the sixth sign of the zodiac and the second earth sign. It takes the resources and raw materials of Taurus, the first earth sign, and builds organizational flow. It takes the creative fire and passion of Leo, the fifth sign of the zodiac, and brings it into shape and form. Virgo is health and wellness, practice and craft, service and an attention to others.
We don’t have to be a Virgo to know its energies. In fact, September, aka Virgo Season, is synonymous with “back to school” or “back to work”. We feel a push to start projects, put things in order, and clean things out. So, with the energies of Virgo with us for the next four weeks, we may have a lot of work to do. Our duties and responsibilities may need more attention. The new moon, as you can imagine, is the perfect time to create and initiate with Virgo’s energies.
It’s important to note that Mercury, the ruler of the new moon, is retrograde at the moment of the new moon. There’s an anticipation, a punctuation, a need to make sure our choices are crystal clear and focused. Although not exactly opposite Saturn, certainly Mercury in Virgo and Saturn in Pisces are “in orb”, which means there’s a big push from Saturn in this new moon period — grow up, take things seriously, honor our commitments, have the wisdom to say “yes” and “no” appropriately.
There’s also an opposition to Neptune with the new moon. As much as Virgo and, by extension, Saturn is all about reality, Neptune blurs its edges and opens us up to something beyond this world. Whatever choices and commitments we are making not only have to honor our earthly lives, but our spiritual lives as well. It’s a call to release, heal, forgive, and find compassion with our actions.
Finally, with trines from Jupiter and Uranus, this new moon period brings a leap of faith as well as a reinvention. Do we have the courage to take this opportunity? Neptune may demand that we surrender our expectations.
Join me for the latest version of my Saturn Master Class, a 12 week journey through the zodiac — also known as the Wheel of Life — with Saturn as our guide. The version I did last September through December was very dear to my heart. And the group of nine who did the journey with me had a lot of powerful insights and breakthroughs. This latest version starts on October 12 and meets weekly for two hours until early January 2024. It will be recorded. Learn more and register in the link below.
