The Astrology of July 18, 2025

Mercury turns retrograde in Leo, the start of a three-week rewind and review of our experiences from the first half of July. It’s also a second look at the choices we have been making, using the retrograde to see things from a different perspective.

All planets turn retrograde, except for the Sun and the Moon. Astronomically, a retrograde is a period where a planet appears to trace a path backwards in the sky, an optical illusion from our vantage on Earth. Symbolically, the retrograde is a yin or receptive phase, a time for us to turn inward and reflect instead of taking action.

It’s no secret that the past comes back around when Mercury is retrograde, whether an old relationship or an unresolved experience that creeps back for another look. While Mercury Retrograde isn’t about your ex texting you or running into an old friend, it is about unfinished business.

Life is made up of the choices we make. Some of these choices are great, some are a work in progress. Mercury Retrograde always gives us an opportunity to rework the past so that we can head towards the future in a new direction.

Mercury will be retrograde until August 11, 2025, turning direct at 4 degrees of Leo. Notably, Mercury will turn direct opposite Pluto in Aquarius. So, this is a Mercury Retrograde period where we need to be really honest with ourselves and be ready to strip away any illusions around the choices we have been making.

If you are in AUSTRALIA or NZ, this forecast applies approximately for July 19-21, 2025.
