It’s the Scorpio Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight turns uncomfortably on our deepest emotions as well as the deepest parts of ourselves. It’s a full moon to face our fears, our shadow, and to heal. Scorpio is also a sign that’s about money, power, resource, and even our obsessions. The full moon is exact May 7, 2020 at 17 degrees Scorpio-Taurus, 6:45 am EDT. That’s 3:45 am Los Angeles, 11:45 am London, 8:45 pm Sydney, and 10:45 pm Auckland.
In the twelve signs of the zodiac wheel, there has to be a sign that teaches us about death and Scorpio is that sign. I know the “D word” is a bit taboo. It shakes something within us. It’s confrontational. It’s mean to shake and confront.
Yes, Scorpio is a lot more than death, but it’s a sign that takes us across the threshold of transformation. It draws a line between the lives we had or the people we were up until a certain point, before we … fell in love … had our first baby … had to make a massive change … experienced a trauma. Death and transformation comes in many forms.
Think of the person you were back at the start of 2020. Think of the life you had. Perhaps that brings up complicated emotions or confusion at how rapidly the world has shifted. Perhaps, through the trauma of what’s unfolding in the world, you’re still holding onto something. Or, perhaps you’re feeling the push to make long overdue changes. Scorpio isn’t about staying in the past; it’s about having the courage to let go of what’s familiar and leap into the unknown.
Let’s not forget that we’re in Taurus Season, the sign that opposes Scorpio, a sign that’s all about stability, security, and keeping things the same. But with Uranus in Taurus since 2019, we can’t keep things the same. And a Scorpio Full Moon pushes us even further.
Scorpio is also a water sign, so it’s important to point out that this full moon is primarily an emotional experience. If you’re strongly feeling something around the full moon, know that it has deep roots, but that it’s also time to release these feelings. The full moon makes what’s called a trine to Neptune in Pisces. We’re overly sensitive and raw, our emotions may rise up like a wave of tears, again to be released and healed. We’re open to the energy of redemption.
With Mars, the ruler of the full moon, over in Aquarius, we need to think of the bigger picture. Mars in Aquarius is about taking action towards a social cause or for the collective as well as humanity. Often the greatest healing and transformation happens when we know that our healing helps or inspires others to heal as well.
There’s a lot of complicated things going on in the world right now. And this full moon puts a spotlight on our most complicated and uncomfortable emotions that are likely being triggered by what’s going on in the world. Be present with your feelings, whether it’s grief or anger. Be present with whatever deeper story in your life these feelings speak to. Remind yourself that whatever you’re feeling now is likely about something that happened in the past.
How will you have the courage to let go and transform?
