Welcome to the Pisces New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when we come to the end of the zodiac. Pisces is finality, the liminality between one life and the next, one breath and the next. It governs over our dreams and illusions as well as our search for meaning. The new moon is exact on February 27, 2025 at 7:45pm ET, 9 degrees Pisces. That’s 4:45pm Los Angeles, 12:45am London on February 28, 2:45am Johannesburg, 6:15am New Delhi, 11:45am Sydney, and 1:45pm Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. They turn the page and bring us into a new setting of time, one lived through the lens of the zodiac sign the new moon falls in. In the case of today’s new moon, we will be living through the lens and archetype of Pisces — the two fishes, the symbol of the ultimate duality of life … the material and the spiritual.
The irony of this new moon is that it brings both renewal and endings. It’s a fresh start, like all new moons. But we have to navigate the end of the zodiac as well as the conclusion of the zodiac year. We’ve come full circle since March 2024 and the Sun’s arrival in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac.
We may be asking ourselves … Where am I going? What is the meaning and purpose of things? How do I find direction? Pisces is an existential sign that can sometimes bring heavy emotions. And there are five planets in Pisces right now. That’s a lot of emphasis on a sign that pulls us into the cosmic ocean.
Ultimately there are great discoveries to be made in Pisces. Ruled by Jupiter, Pisces isn’t the grand voyages and travels of Sagittarius, also ruled by Jupiter. For Pisces, the grand voyages are within. They are also the voyages that take us beyond this world and beyond the veil into dreams, mysteries, spirituality, and the intuitive. Unlike rational Virgo, the sign that stands on the opposite side of the zodiac, Pisces is subjective. It speaks in symbols that may be riddles for some, but keys that unlock spaces for others.
Jupiter is also the ruler of the Pisces New Moon, pulling its energy over to Gemini, where Jupiter has been since late May 2024. Gemini, like Pisces, is a mutable sign. It’s duality, but the duality of life in the choices we make. While the new moon asks us to reflect on big questions, Gemini gets more into the everyday minutia. We need to become aware of how our daily choices and actions make up the greater whole.
Pisces and Gemini is also a reminder of the multiplicity of life. Diversity is inherent to creation. In every corner of our planet, in every area of our universe is Gemini as an archetype, like seeds dispersing to create variations in flora and fauna, two by two. It is a new moon and a lunar month to seek out new options, new perspectives, new ideas. Gemini is restless and we may be on the move as we go into March or planning grand voyages to come.
Let’s not forget that Jupiter is still in a long square to Saturn. Options demand maturity and accountability. Choices want to create something solid. Something wants to take shape and form. With Mercury conjunct Saturn and Neptune, can our dreams become a reality?
The new moon also sets the stage for a Virgo Full Moon in two weeks, a lunar eclipse that activates a story that began to come into focus in September 2024 and again when the Lunar Nodes changed signs on January 11. The North Node in Pisces, the South Node in Virgo. How do we help? How do we heal? How do we find the balance between heaven and earth?
Use this lunar month to meditate, to create time and space for personal rituals that fulfill the spirit, to seek out answers in books and classes, to dream of new horizons, to take concrete steps to bring these visions into our daily lives.
