Welcome to the Capricorn Full Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when the spotlight is on maturity and wisdom, commitments and responsibilities, boundaries and limits. Capricorn and Saturn, its ruling planet, help us to build form and structure in our lives. The full moon is exact on July 13, 2022 at 2:37 pm ET, 21 degrees Capricorn/Cancer. That’s 11:37 am Los Angeles, 7:37 pm London, 8:37 pm Johannesburg, 4:37 am Sydney on July 14, and 6:37 pm Auckland.
Full moons are decision points, a time when the light of the full moon shines on a certain part of our lives. With the full moon in Capricorn, there’s something that needs our attention as well as our maturity and authority. It’s a full moon to get real, get honest, and maybe even to get sober.
Known for its diligence and exactitude, Capricorn pushes the bar higher on us. After all, Capricorn is famously ruled by Saturn, a planet that has a habit of saying “no” more often than “yes”. Which is to say, we need to make sure we’re saying “no” to the right things and “yes” to the things that set a healthy level for our lives. After all, Saturn just wants our lives to be in equity and balance. It wants order and for us to rise to our highest level. (Something that we learned about more in my Facing Saturn webinar, which you can still watch.)
For some, the full moon may be a hard stop, a revelation that something is not working, perhaps profoundly so. Capricorn and Saturn cuts through illusions. It shows us where we’re not living up to our commitments. It shows the cracks in the foundation. It even shows us the sobering results of our choices.
In contrast, for others, the full moon may be a time when something comes together and takes form. We may be creating a partnership or relationship or marking a personal milestone. Saturn energy often accompanies the major moments of our lives, the things that leave an indelible mark on the fabric of our lives.
That said, the full moon makes a conjunction to Pluto, an aspect that may come with a bit of a punch. Pluto holds the mirror to us. Do we like what we see? In Capricorn, Pluto tears down the structures that aren’t working so we can build something new upon its space.
Saturn in the 8th House of the Sun echos many of these points, highlighting our connections with other people and themes around intimacy and vulnerability, power and control. Relationships may be under the spotlight. Again, something may have to be profoundly changed or put back into order.
Lastly, a square to Chiron is a reminder that whatever we’re feeling has deep roots and we need to look for an emotional or spiritual subtext that may reveal how old patterns are connected by a stubborn knot. Time to undo that knot.
