Welcome to the Libra New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when our attention turns to other people. Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra reminds us of the importance of social connection and partnership, of fairness and equity, of negotiation and compromise. The new moon will be exact on October 10, 2026 at 11:50 am, 17 degrees Libra. That’s 8:50 am Los Angeles, 4:50 pm London, 5:50 pm Johannesburg, 9:20 pm New Delhi, 2:50 am Sydney on October 11, and 4:50 am Auckland.
New moons are new beginnings. They set a stage for the upcoming four weeks, the length of the lunar month. Over the coming weeks, Libra will be our setting, a lens for us to experience and discover. If Libra is the sign of relationships, then our focus will turn towards others for the rest of October and into November.
With Venus Retrograde in Scorpio at the time of the new moon, this will also be a lunar month to dig into the deeper emotional themes that come up between two people, such as vulnerability and trust. Scorpio pulls back the veneer of Libra, with all its social niceties, and shows us the truth of what lies beneath. Secrets may come to light. Confessions may be made. The honesty of Scorpio is often the necessary alchemy for long overdue change.
Since Venus is retrograde, we have our work cut out for us. A retrograde is always a review — in this case, a review of our relationships and social dynamics, of past partnerships that are still unresolved — a review so that we can make a realization. And with Venus making both a square to Mars and Pluto, we will be reforming and transforming our relationships.
More importantly, the new moon will make an opposition to Saturn in Aries. This will mean that the next four weeks will be crucial. Saturn often accompanies major milestones and turning points. A Saturn opposition will say that we must put a relationship in order, or we must set boundaries and expectations, or we must commit.
For example, if there is a relationship or connection that we are not sure about, then the next four weeks will make things very clear. With Saturn, there is no gray, just black and white. Something is either working or not working. Note that this Libra New Moon will activate our Saturn in Aries story. (Read Saturn in Aries: Sign by Sign to review what part of your life Saturn in Aries has been making a priority.)
Thankfully, we have a trine between Mars in Leo and Saturn in Aries, which will take some of the pressure off a tense lineup of planets at the time of the Libra New Moon. What this will mean is that if we really put the work in over the next four weeks, we will see an opportunity open up or see a reward. A relationship may grow stronger, for example. Or we may personally benefit from ending a relationship that has been draining our energy or acting as a toxic influence.
But, first, with Venus and Mercury in Scorpio, we must be ready to get real, stripping away any illusions we may have.
