Welcome to the Taurus New Moon. It’s the time in the lunar calendar to renew our connection to all things earthly, from material stability and resources to food, pleasure, and sensuality. As the first earth sign, Taurus gets us back to basics. The new moon is exact on May 11, 2021 at 3 pm EDT, 21 degrees Taurus. That’s 12 pm Los Angeles, 8 pm London, 9 pm Johannesburg, 5 am Sydney on May 12, and 7 am Auckland.

A Taurus New Moon asks us, “What do we need? What do we want? What’s going to make us feel safe? Comfortable?” After a year that made some of these questions more critical, it’s time to review our material lives.

Taurus isn’t about high ambitions. True, it loves life’s luxuries, but Taurus puts us in touch with the fundamentals of our material lives. It’s the money we make, the things we own, the food in our kitchens, the resources we can call upon. It’s even our own sense of self worth and value. As a result, these themes will be a major focus all month long, even into June.

We’re physical beings. We need to make sure our physical lives are well taken care of. Yes, it’s not always that simple. But the new moon is an invitation to take steps to change the narrative, especially with its powerful trine to Pluto in Capricorn.

Astrology is all about timing and being in alignment with timing. But it’s about the energy that we put into the astrology. We need to inhabit our fertility this month, tasting things that are fresh and alive or being around the world in full bloom. These powerful yet fundamental energies need to nourish our cells, our senses, and bring us back to life. We need to feel at the core of our being as though we have everything that we need … and sit with the emotions that come up when we feel that we don’t.

In many ways this Taurus New Moon touches on the work we’ve been doing since Uranus arrived in Taurus in May 2018, March 2019. In fact, we’ve been in the midst of a revolution in all things Taurus the past two years. Our values have shifted. Our relationship with our bodies has upended. Money and income mean different things. We’ve also had to get really out of our blocks, stuck patterns, and comfort zones.

How will you use this new moon to plant new seeds in an earth that’s changed so much since 2018? What wild new beginnings or empowered changes or new values? Of course, we have to get out of our comfort zones. And with Jupiter at the very last degree of Aquarius, we have to make the choices that align with our best possible future.
