Happy New Moon in Capricorn at 21 degrees! It’s the time of the year when we set new intentions regarding career, ambitions, status, structure, and business. With Saturn in Scorpio, this is an especially auspicious time to make new intentions for money, finance, and getting debt under control.
First, this chart seems a little quiet to me. With some much action centered in Capricorn (5 planets!), the other signs are getting left out. Plus there are not a lot of aspects flying about. But this emphasis on Capricorn helps us set goals — the sort of goals we hammer away at and see fruition on a greater time scale. Capricorn is about building something — something that will stand the test of time.
Contrary to this sentiment of creation has been Pluto’s near five-year transit through Capricorn, teaching us the painful lesson that some things can’t and won’t last forever. Great structures must eventually come down, from banks to the job we thought we’d be at until retirement. It was Pluto in Capricorn, after all, that gave us the phrase, “Too big to fail.” But nothing is immune to the lord of the underworld. Structures and institutions must fail if the foundation is unsustainable, like a building with a huge crack running up its side. And yet we delay the inevitable, patching up the crack until the whole thing comes crumbling down.
This time of breakdown brings us to the point when we must figure out what to build upon the old. Destruction seeds creation. I think 2012 was a high water mark for this teardown phase and this new moon is asking us to plant something new this year.
If you feel like your life has been dismantled around you, use this new moon to set intentions for a new beginning. Get out a pen and a piece of paper and begin to craft what new structures you want to create. Sketch them out like an architect at a drafting table. And what do you want your 2013 to be like now that the craziness of 2012 is behind you?
Capricorn is about mastery. It’s the last earth sign after Virgo and Taurus, which teach us about perfection and accumulation respectively. Moving from Virgo to Capricorn is about taking skills and organization and launching them into something commanding. The waning Mars/Saturn square is still giving us enough agitation to push boundaries and really hone our impulses into a slow and steady rate of ascent. Venus activating the Uranus/Pluto square teaches us to redefine our values and what we attract in our lives.
So, be worldly with this new moon. Think big. Think long term. Craft your ambitions. Attract something new and radical. Be powerful. Clear the rubble. Begin anew.
