Welcome to Cancer Season! The Sun’s arrival in a new sign also initiates the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and winter solstice in the southern. As the first water sign, the element that connects us to our emotions, Cancer is feeling at its most primal.

When we look at the circle of the zodiac, Aries along the horizon on the left and Libra opposite on the right, Cancer forms the foundation of the wheel. It’s literally the root that connects us to life through home, family, and the emotional experiences that we need to feel loved and cared for. Cancer is the energy of the mother in its archetypal form and reminds us that we need to water our roots if our lives are going to thrive.

Over the next four weeks, it’s an an important time for us to tend to our homes both literally and metaphorically. Spend time with family or the people in your inner circle. If family and childhood memories are a sore subject, this may be an emotional time — especially with Mars in Cancer making us fussy well into July. Use the active energy of Mars to go out and get what you need this month.

Lastly Cancer Season will peak with a powerful full moon on July 9. Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, we’ll have to confront the dead roots in our life, the things that do not care and nurture us. In short, July will bring a purge.

PS — I teaching an intimate, evening workshop here in New York on July 25 called The Gateway: Eclipses and the Astrology of Transformation. It doesn’t matter how much astrology you know. I’ll be teaching you about August’s eclipses and what they mean for your sun sign in this hands on workshop. You’ll learn how to work with the eclipse’s energy of creation and transformation. Early registration is $50. For more details and to register, click here.
