April is Aries season, a time that’s all about action, renewal, and fresh starts. But over the last few years April has been a rocky month, our lives punctuated by unexpected events, deep emotional shifts, and radically new chapters. (Remember April 2014 and the Cardinal Grand Cross??) So, here we are again. Sort of. What can we expect this April?

First, Uranus and Pluto, while pulling away from each other, are still making cosmic waves. The Sun’s square to Pluto on April 6 and conjunction to Uranus on April 9 will make for a week of tension and breakthrough. On top of that, the Aries New Moon on April 7 will fall right on Uranus and Pluto, opening up a new lunar month seeded with seismic change, rebirth, and revolution.

Further, Mars in Sagittarius will turn retrograde on April 17, so the planet will be unusually influential this month. (The previous retrograde was March through May 2014) Turning direction in the sign of faith and wisdom, the month will be punctuated by calls for freedom and leaps of faith. It’s also worth mentioning that Mars Retrograde is a 10 week look at our Mars karma — how we take action, how we are overly aggressive, and how we are too self righteous.

Two more planets will turn retrograde this month. Pluto will start its annual five month rewind on April 18 and Mercury will turn retrograde on April 28. That’s a lot of cosmic gear shifting! As a result, our lives will be in motion this month. Things will be starting and stopping at the same time.

Lastly, the Scorpio Full moon on April 22 will be a revelation in the dark. If full moons are decision points, a time when we see things for what they really are, this full moon will get to the psychological truth of the matter. Time to let go, powerfully so.

Aries

Aries

Happy birthday, Aries! Lately you’ve been stretching your legs, enjoying distant shores, and searching for knowledge. Between Mars, your ruling planet, and Saturn up in Sagittarius, the big theme in your life right now is a quest for truth and meaning. You’ve had to make major changes in your life over the past few years. So, what wisdom have you gained? How have those hard gained truths informed your direction in life? What have you lost? What sacrifices have you made? As a result you may be in a reflective mood in April. And when Mars begins its retrograde on April 17, you’ll be entering a ten week period of pulling back and working through karma around judgement and belief as well as trust, intimacy, and finance. Keep in mind that (almost) every sign goes through times of retrograde. Even though Aries always wants to move forward, there are periods when we have to surrender instead of trying to swim against the tide. As a result you may be feeling a little off your game, a little sensitive. On top of all that, a powerhouse Aries New Moon on April 7 will be a reset. Falling on Uranus and Pluto, you will be entering a lunar month where something will have to radically shift, especially around April 17 when Pluto will turn retrograde. Maybe it will be a sense of who you are, your place in the world, or even your direction in life. Set an intention to use April to be reborn, to seek out new insights, new awareness, and release outworn limitations. The full moon on April 22 will bring matters to a head in finance as well as open you up to deep emotional revelations and intimate connection. Taurus

Taurus

If astrology is a calendar, then the first few weeks of April is when you naturally pull back and reflect on the road traveled. You may be poised to celebrate your birthday shortly, but not before looking back and preparing for the coming year. So, what are your wishes? Your hopes? What’s on your list for 2016? Where do you need a do-over? The new moon on April 7 will be a shot at a fresh start, albeit one that speaks to an internal and spiritual journey. Striking a sensitive chord, the new moon will spark on themes of truth, belief, and meaning over the coming weeks. Taurus has a habit of holding tightly to things. What happens when you allow the ground beneath your feet to shift? What if you’ve been reading your internal compass wrong. Don’t be surprised if a well of emotions come up this month, from a sense of connection and rootedness in this world to the feelings you’d rather not deal with. The Sun, your planet of home and family, will make a series of bumpy connections to Uranus and Pluto from April 6–9. Time to make a change. Maybe even move house. Relationships will also be a big theme this month. From Mars, your relationship planet, turning retrograde on April 17, to the full moon on April 22, you will have decisions to make, deals to seal (or unseal). Also, keep an eye on Venus’s quarterly tangle with Uranus and Pluto from April 19-22. Time to evolve, Taurus. Even it means white-knuckling it through life’s twists and turns. As Scorpio, your relationship sign, teaches you, change doesn’t come without facing your fears first. Want to learn more about how the astrology of April will affect you? Book your consultation now.

Gemini

Gemini

It’s all about other people this month. And with Mars making an extended visit to Sagittarius, your relationship sign, any interactions with a mate or a partner may be a bit blustery. Mars isn’t known for its tact or charm. In fact, it’s been heating up relationships since early March. With that in mind, you may find yourself on the defensive with other people this month. Not that Mars is all agita and opinions (believe me, Mars in Sag has opinions), you may be inspired to seek out new connections in April, from friends to serious partners. The new moon on April 7 will bring a reset to friendships as well as a push to seek out people who are more aligned with who you are. Since Saturn is a long term visitor to Sagittarius, your relationship sign, as well, all your interactions with people have been under scrutiny since last year. Who’s really there for you? How can your relationships — even friendships — be more balanced? Do you and a partner have the same vision for the future or are you on different ideological ends of the spectrum? Keep an eye on the days around April 17 when Mars turns retrograde. Any long simmering issues with a partner or collaborator may come to a head. Looking toward the full moon on April 22, you may have a decision to make about health, diet, and how you schedule your day-to-day life. How will you let go and surrender? Have faith? Projects will be highlighted as well as a relationship with colleagues. Finally, Mercury will turn retrograde on April 28. You know the drill. Time to let the tide pull back as you arrive in May. Cancer

Cancer

Cancer, this is the time of the year when the Sun rises above the highest points in your chart. As a result, April is a month to reach for success, gain recognition, and put a spotlight on career. This part of your chart also corresponds with your direction in life. In the days following the new moon on April 7, you may be thinking about making a major change in course, from a job change to a professional realignment. Uranus, a long term influence in your career until 2018 has been demanding authenticity from you. What is it that you really want to do in the world? Where have you been holding back professionally? Where do you need a rebirth? Where is the world demanding you change? In other news, Mars and Pluto will turn retrograde on April 17–18, setting off waves. Try to keep an even keel, Cancer. Between Pluto showing you where the relationships in your life need to change to Mars activating an impulse for order in your life, you’re pushing through a lot of stuff this month. Make sure you step up your self care game, from going to the gym or being conscious of the foods you’re eating. In fact the bumpy astrology will last into April 22 when your planet of stability, security, and roots makes a jolt to Uranus and Pluto. In short, lots of things will need to shift this month — your direction in life, your home, your grounding, and the people around you. Additionally, the full moon on April 22 will highlight creativity, identity, self expression, performance, and romance. Time to be inspired by the muses or set out in search of the truth of yourself. Pack your bags, Leo. This is the time of the year when you naturally get an itch to travel, in search of new lands and places to see. The world is a big place full of different people and ideas. So, where do you want to go? April is all about shifting your perspective, especially in the days around the new moon on April 7. Falling on Uranus and Pluto, the new moon has the makings for dynamic astrology that will unfold over the coming weeks. If you’re not planning a journey abroad, you may be making a commitment to your education, faith, or beliefs instead. If you are a writer, April may be the month that you publish your ideas, too. Nevertheless, prepare to reinvent, to wow, provoke, and rewrite the script. Plus, Mars will bring a spark of fire to your chart this month, turning up the heat on creativity, self expression, and fun — not to mention romance as well. Virgo

Virgo

As you step into April, you may feel the ground trembling beneath your feet. Only a few weeks before, the eclipses shook up your life and signaled a new chapter. In addition, Mercury made a series of intense connections to Uranus and Pluto in the last few days of March. As a result, your head may still ringing. April is a month when you naturally look into the deepest, most intimate parts of yourself. What are my fears? Am I safe? What do I project onto others? Money and finance will also be highlighted this month. (What could be more intimate than the contents of your bank account?) The new moon on April 7 will pack a bit of an emotional punch, digging up anything that you’ve pushed into the furthest reaches of your psyche — your fears, repressed feelings, the past, legacies. Make sure you engage in self care, from talking to a close ally or therapist to cleaning out the old. (Virgo loves to clean and organize.) Another area getting a fair bit of action this month is home and family. With Mars making noise at the bottom of your chart, turning retrograde on April 17, something may come up this month around moving, remodeling, or changes in the home. Additionally, Mars may spark on events around finance connected to the home, including mortgages and estate planning. Looking ahead to the full moon on April 22, may bring news or busy back and forth travel around town. You may have a decision to make about a family member. Lastly, Mercury will turn retrograde on April 28 in your chart’s sector of foreign travel, higher education, and spiritual beliefs. The truth is out there. Libra

Libra

It’s all about relationships this month, Libra. When Venus, your ruling planet, changes signs on April 5, you’ll be looking toward the people in your life, from forming new connections to spending time with a mate. But there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, due to the long term, heaving hitting influence of Uranus and Pluto, this time of year tends to be a bit rocky. For instance, when the Sun joins up with these two planets from April 6-9 followed by Venus from April 19-22, the cosmos will be signal to you that it’s time to do relationships differently. It’s time to connect to other people in a completely new way. Two, the new moon on April 7 will underscore this further, opening up a lunar month fill with revelations, changes in direction, and need for dialogue. Old interpersonal problems may come to the surface and if they do, Uranus and Pluto will demand nothing short of total transformation. Use your Libra grace and charm to find middle ground through new insights and perspectives. Another factor to watch this month is Mars. The planet of action has been heating up your chart’s sector of communication since March. Have there been more arguments than usual? Testy emails or phone calls? As Mars slows down, turning retrograde on April 17, information may come to light or you may have an important conversation with a partner or sibling. Since Mars will be retrograde until the end of June, you’ll still have the next couple of months to rework a relationship concern. Ever since your ruling planet arrived in Sagittarius back in early March, you’ve been working toward material security in your life — from making more money to figuring out how to gather the resources and materials you need to make your ambitions a reality. Let’s not forget that Saturn arrived in this area of your chart back in September so you’re pushing hard to reach the next level or milestone. However Mars has will be crawling to a halt this month, turning retrograde on April 17. Sagittarius

The heat is on! When Mars arrived in Sagittarius back in early March, you’ve been all action. Mars is a great motivator and in Sag, there’s been an emphasis on creativity and self expression as well as sharing your (many) opinions and personal philosophies over the past month. But Mars has been slowing down, preparing to turn retrograde on April 17. As a result, you may be pushier and impatient than usual. But keep in mind that Saturn is in Sag and you’re in a two year period of mastering the self, from taking on more responsibility to showing the world that you’re a leader and an authority. Whatever blustery ideas and judgements you have need to be focused, fair, discerning, and part of your bigger mission or philosophy. The powerhouse new moon on April 7 will ignite your creativity and passion, urging you to radically think outside of the box. If you’re learning to be a leader this year and into the next, how can you set yourself apart? What innovative ideas do you have? Yes, creativity can be art and performance, but it can also touch on making anything that has your proverbial stamp on it — a book, a signature dish, an invention. The energy for much of April will be electric for you, even as Mars turns the other way, pulling your energy inward slightly. Capricorn

Capricorn

By now you’re half way into a three year chapter designed to pull you inward, turning your life’s compass toward spirituality and a quest for truth. This either has been a richly esoteric time where you’ve uncovered hidden parts of yourself or melancholic as you’ve struggled to find solid ground. Aquarius

One of the major themes this month is connection. As an Aquarius, you can go one of two ways. Either you surround yourself with interesting people who share your values and vision for the world … or you struggle at times to find your tribe. In fact, ever since Saturn, your ruling planet, arrived in Sagittarius last year, you’ve been deeply examining themes of community. Maybe a few friendships have come and gone over the last six months. By this point, hopefully, you should have a stronger idea of the kind of allies you want in your life. Here’s the thing to keep in mind. Mars has been making noise lately in the friend department and hitting on the sensitive spots. When it turns retrograde on April 17, an issue within your community or circle of friends may boil over and it may have a lot to do with value. With Neptune caught up in the mix, you will be called on to surrender, let go, and find the common thread that unites you to everyone. The other area of focus this month will be communication. Not only has Mars been activating your chart’s highest reaches, motivating you to take action in career and your life’s direction, but Mars is your money planet. Not only are you looking to make professional gains, but it’s all about securing your bottom line. The new moon on April 7 will underscore money and material security in the coming weeks. Don’t forget, Saturn has been making you work extra hard over the last six months and will continue to do so into the end of 2017. That’s a long time! But when you’re done, you’ll have a clearer idea about who you want to be when you grow up (doesn’t matter if you’re 22 or 62) and how you want to define yourself professionally. This month will be a stepping stone in that bigger journey. In fact, when Mars turns retrograde on April 17, keep an eye on what’s developing in your career. It will give you a bigger idea of the themes you’re working out professionally into next year. In other news, the full moon on April 22 will light up your chart’s sector of foreign travel and long distance journeys. Maybe you need a break after all this hard work. But if you travel, keep a couple of things in mind. One, any trips you make at this time may be more for work than kicking back on a distant beach. Two, Mercury will turn retrograde on April 28.
