Happy Taurus New Moon! Happy solar eclipse! New moons are new beginnings, the time when we set our intentions and welcome opportunities that support income, wealth, resources, value, fertility, and stability. Over the next two weeks, if not six months, we will see just what our intentions have created. And with the solar eclipse, our new beginning just got super charged. The eclipse clocks in on April 29, 2014 at 2:14 am EDT, 8 degrees Taurus.

After the lunar eclipse in Libra and the cardinal grand cross, we could all use a little break from life’s ups and downs. While Taurus is known for its leisurely pace and tendency to stop and smell the roses, an eclipse is the sort of abrupt energy anathematic to Taurus. Eclipses stir things up, quickly closing one door while opening another. So this solar eclipse in particular is about shaking up the status quo — not exactly the favored activity of an earth sign. Instead, think of it as breaking ground on a new foundation. Create a vision of what you are building through this process. Is it a home? Is it a new life?

Curiously, both eclipses this month are Venus ruled and in both instances Venus is exalted in Pisces, which is to say that Venus has special status when she is in Pisces. Venus is relationships as well as value. And even though we are experiencing monumental shifts in these areas, Venus in Pisces reminds us that we have support. Thank the lord ’cause we could use some support at this time.

Speaking of support, when we look over at the eclipse chart, Venus is at 25 Pisces and making a trine (120 degrees; harmonious) to Saturn in Scorpio. The Sun and Moon are also sextiling (60 degrees; harmonious) Neptune in Pisces. Again, despite the panic of hearing that we’re in another eclipse, this one actually has some nice aspects. Mind you, we shouldn’t forget that Pisces is the sign of endings — the sort of endings that come at the end of a major cycle. And with support from Venus, Neptune, Jupiter and even Pluto, bless the things as the slip from your life.

I don’t normally look at Sabian Symbols, but felt prompted to look up the one for Pisces 26. It reads:

“A new moon reveals that it’s time for people to go ahead with their different projects.”

So, green light from the cosmos? When Venus enters Aries on May 2, we’ll be ready to rocket into the new. But keep in mind that Mars will be retrograde until May 19. Adjustment will be needed.

It is also worth noting that this is the last eclipse not only for the season but for Taurus as well. Yes, Taurus, take heart. There won’t be an eclipse in your sign until November 2021. I think the past year and a half has been particularly rough on you with the South Node in Taurus and these eclipses have forced you to let go in ways that was often beyond your comfort zone. So as we experience the solar eclipse, think back to 2012 and how far you’ve come.
