Happy Scorpio New Moon! Happy solar eclipse! Like a phoenix from the ashes, it’s time to start fresh in all things Scorpio. And because this is a solar eclipse, the next six months will be dominated by themes of power, control, shadow, sexuality, intimacy, wealth, finance, debt, and legacies. Hoo boy! Just want you wanted, right? Thankfully this is the last Scorpio eclipse for quite a while! The new moon will arrive on October 23, 2014 at 5:56 pm EDT, 0 degrees Scorpio.

It’s safe to say that we’ve been doing Scorpio ever since Saturn arrived in October 2012 trailed by a series of Scorpio/Taurus eclipses. Over the last two years we’ve been in dark emotional waters as we’ve navigated themes of loss, betrayal, and total transformation. We are not the same person that we were in 2012.

I know, Scorpio isn’t an easy sign; I won’t lie. But it’s a sign that encompasses a necessary process in a journey through the zodiac signs. Where there is light, there is shadow; where there is life, death. Scorpio is an uncomfortable sign that not only exposes our mortality, but our secrets as well. It makes us vulnerable, pulling back the mask of Libra to reveal what we’ve been hiding all along.

And here we are, a solar eclipse right on the doorstep of Scorpio, the paradox of starting something new in a sign of endings, the déjà vu of coming back to where we were in October 2012 when Saturn entered Scorpio. It is both a review and a chance to rewrite the script.

If the eclipse opens a doorway, where does it lead? Look no further than Mars, the ruler of the eclipse. It’s late in Sagittarius in a section of the sky that points towards the center of our galaxy, a dense ribbon of stars that we call the Milky Way. This eclipse will take us on a journey into the frontier of the unknown. Sagittarius is a leap of faith, a search for truth, and a reminder to reconnect to our humor after the often painful experiences of Saturn in Scorpio.

Other players in this eclipse are Venus and Neptune, the first of which has a staring role. Venus is exactly on the degree as the solar eclipse, performing a bit of a disappearing act herself. Since eclipses represent a shift in the narrative, something about relationships, collaboration, beauty, value, and worth will change over the coming months. The Neptune trine brings healing, compassion, magic, and the hope that maybe — just maybe — we aren’t alone on this crazy journey.

I think there’s a lot of potential in this eclipse. Yes, it’s in Scorpio, but it’s making a couple of nice aspects. I also think we’ve been through the wringer the past couple of years and that maybe we deserve a miracle. Let’s not forget that Scorpio is the sign of wealth and buried treasure. The eclipse will help us see the hidden gems and pearls of wisdom in the midst of all the Saturn in Scorpio rubble.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that the eclipse will fall at 0 Scorpio. The energy behind the first degree of any sign is raw and new. Not only are we starting a new chapter with the solar eclipse, but landscape is is a blank canvas and Mars in Sagittarius will give us the vision to sketch something powerful. Once Saturn transitions out of Scorpio and into Sagittarius come December 23, we’ll really start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Eclipse Checklist:

  • End abusive relationships
  • Start therapy
  • Be vulnerable
  • Trust
  • Take your power back
