Happy New Moon in Pisces! As the final sign in the zodiac, this is also the last new moon of the astrological year. True, new moons bring new beginnings, but it comes with a sense of transition as Pisces slides us away from the physical world and into the liminal space between this life and the next. The new moon is exact on March 1, 2014 at 2:59 am EST, 10 degrees Pisces.

Maybe it’s because of my south node in Pisces, but I have a soft spot for the sign; It’s well worn territory for me. It’s also one of the most abstract, transpersonal signs of the zodiac and the one that directly links us back to the mystical ethers from which we came. And so today’s new moon invites us to begin a chapter in our search for something outside this world. It asks us to dream, to get still, examine the invisible, pay attention to our dreams, make art, feel pregnant with possibility, and to value the heart as well as the soul. There’s a softness to Pisces that is often misunderstood as weakness. But as any Pisces knows, it takes a special kind of bravery to feel a level of compassion and connection that others shy away from.

In the chart above, the new moon also falls right next to Chiron in Pisces, opening a window to our deepest sensitivities. Wherever Chiron is in the chart, we have a natural empathy for the plight of others and so with Chiron in Pisces, we acutely feel the collective’s spiritual pain. Our wounds are the wounds of the collective and when we heal ourselves we heal everyone — there is no separation. Use this opportunity to delve into your own healing, knowing that compassion for others begins with compassion for yourself.

There’s so much support in this new moon. Jupiter, the ruler of Pisces, is in comforting, caring Cancer, a sign that it is exalted in. And the new moon is exactly trine Jupiter and making a mutual reception? I’m in love! It’s as if we pulled both the Ace of Cups and the 10 of Cups in a tarot spread — new beginnings wrapped up in the joy, happiness, celebration of completion. Yes, I’m conveniently ignoring the Jupiter/Pluto/Uranus t-square and Venus square the nodes, but can’t we just enjoy the sweet Pisces New Moon before we slide into April’s cardinal grand cross? Yes? Yes.

With that in mind, use the lunation to dream and replenish the spirt, to meditate and intuit. There’s a lot of beauty and creativity in the ether right now. Use Chiron to heal so that you may be readied for the new astrological year. On the Aries New Moon later this month, we will set sail into rough cosmic waters.
