Happy New Moon in Libra, the time of the year when we plant our seeds for grace, harmony, balance, peace, beauty, and diplomacy. As another lunar cycle ends, another begins. This new moon is exact at 10/4/2013 at 8:35 pm EDT and 11 degrees.

The Libra New Moon has developed quite the reputation. Some astrologers were all but predicting the end of the world because 11 degrees of Libra is right on the transiting Uranus/Pluto square, an ongoing force of major change from 2012 to 2015. In astrology, new and full moons are catalysts. When they aspect outer planets, they bring its archetype and  evolutionary force sharply into focus. That is to say the Sun and Moon personalize a process that has heretofore been in the abstract. Uranus is sudden change and awakening. Pluto is transformation through demolition. So you can understand why there has been a fair bit of anxiety about this lunation.

One of the things that bothers me about these dire predictions is that they fail to explain the bigger picture and connect this new moon to a whole series of events from the past couple of years. The world is not going to end with this Libra New Moon because it has already ended. I’m sure if you think back to the life you lived previous to 2011, you can see a sharp line separating two very different worlds. You are evolving; Uranus and Pluto are making sure of that. Why? Because things can’t stay the same forever. They have to grow, be challenged, pushed, and striped bare. That is life! Our purpose as souls is to grow and evolve, otherwise we’d still be in non-physical. Sometimes you can only grow when you have no choice but to shift out of complacency.

So there are these times in history, such as now, when the pressure is turned up to the very edge of our tolerance. Those who are not taking care of themselves and who are not grounded are cracking under the weight. Just turn on the news and you will see many examples of people who have lost it. Therefore it’s of utmost importance to use this Libra New Moon to instill peace and stability in your life so that you are a force of calm in the chaos. The more we can pull our energy back, the more things will start to equalize.

The Libra New Moon is also pushing us to start a new chapter that we’ve perhaps been resistant of, whether because of our fears or our cultural programming. If you needed a new moon that really cuts through the bullshit to establish a new chapter in your life, this is your new moon. If you have a planet at or around 11 degrees cardinal (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), it’s time — time for whatever you’ve been putting off. The Pluto side of this new moon is about clearing space. Uranus gives you the freedom and ingenuity to put something radically new in its place.

There is a lot of confrontation energy in this new moon. Make no mistake. But don’t disempower yourself by thinking that there’s this horrible negative force that is primed to wreck havoc on your life. Work with the Uranus/Pluto square, not against. Remember, you are an aspect of the creator made physical. So what are you going to create with this energy? If you’re not sure where to begin, here’s a friendly reminder on how to co-create with the Uranus/Pluto square.
